Who we are and what we do

As one of the largest regional charities in East Anglia, our purpose is to provide care and support to autistic children, adults and their families. Our services offer personalised approaches that provide each individual with the necessary skills and strategies to enable them to realise their own strengths and abilities.

We also aspire to promote greater knowledge and understanding of autism through accredited training, education and events offering information to the public and professionals.

Supporting families and individuals

Our Autism and Welfare Rights Advice team provides support, advice and guidance to individuals, families and professionals. The team has extensive knowledge of welfare rights, specialist education, local services, practical advice and can signpost to other support agencies.

We have developed a vibrant online community and utilise social media to provide advice, information and support, wherever you are in the region.

Autism Alert Card

Our credit card sized Autism Alert Card is available to anyone with an autism diagnosis. The card can help to boost confidence and give peace of mind in stressful situations.

Supporting children and young people

Doucecroft School in Eight Ash Green (Colchester) offers specialist education and residential services for children and young people aged 3 - 19 years. The school is designed to facilitate and promote individual growth and development through education, independence, social skills and self-esteem.

Supporting adults

Outreach - Our Outreach service is designed around individual needs, following a comprehensive assessment to determine the level of support required, from 2 to 24 hours a day. Flexible support packages offer individualised support and advice to those who may still be living with their parents or in their own home.

Supported Living - The focus is on developing independence for people in their own homes. Help can be given with finances, shopping, journeys or attendance at college for example, all tailored to the individual.

Residential Services - Our houses in Essex and Norfolk provide a welcome, homely environment with a focus on independence and developing new skills and social opportunities. We pride ourselves on our partnerships with families and professionals. Above all, an emphasis is placed on those we support being and feeling like part of the community.

Opportunities Centres - Our centres in Colchester (Essex) and Dereham (Norfolk) provide day opportunities for autistic adults. Both offer a range of personalised activities, enabling individuals to express themselves creatively, stay active and learn vital life skills.

Training and conferences

We can provide autism training, presentations and talks for your organisation, school or group, tailored to your specific needs. Conferences and information days are held throughout the year, with the aim to educate and inspire from both professional and personal viewpoints. Our events include workshops, marketplaces, and the opportunity to network.
