Hi, and welcome to the Patreon page for Angry Vegan Sock Puppet.

THANK YOU so much for choosing to support this project!

Creator Bio

My name is Kamal and I'm the creator of Angry Vegan Sock Puppet. I'm also an animal rights activist.

In 2009, while learning about what additional things I could do to reduce my environmental footprint, I started learning about the HUGE negative impact of animal agriculture on the environment. As I did my research, I started to realize that many of our environmental, health and social justice issues are related to the breeding and slaughter of non-human animals for use by humans.

My mind was BLOWN!

That is when I went from being an environmental activist to being an animal rights activist, since I couldn't see a better way to address some of the world's worst problems. At the time, I was an aspiring filmmaker and so I decided to use what I was learning in animal advocacy. Since then, I've created a few short animal advocacy videos of my own, as well as volunteering my skills for other organizations like Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, United Poultry Concerns, and Compassionate Living. I also helped with the filming of Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret as a volunteer camera operator.

In addition, I've given presentations on animal agriculture's negative impact on the environment and volunteered with various other animal rights organization like Farm Animal Rights Movement (AR Conference and 10 Billion Lives Tour) and March for Elephants.

I currently work for a small IT company, but wish to make my passion for filming a full time career in which I can use my filmmaking skills to help animals as well as other vegan creatives. Your support can help me achieve that dream.

Actor Bio

Mandy Cimino has always been an animal lover from her first guinea pig to the pack of rescued critters she shares her life with now. In high school she volunteered for her local animal shelter. There she began learning about the truth behind animal agriculture.

She became a vegetarian and also worked with all kinds of animals at a veterinary hospital. After discovering more about the horrendous lives of the millions of animals on farms, she made the next logical choice to become vegan. It was at that time that she joined Vegan Voices which would ultimately become Compassionate Living.

Mandy is currently on the board for Compassionate Living whose goal is to educate others about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. She lives in Northern California with her human and animal family.

Why Angry Vegan Sock Puppet?

Vegans used to, and to some extent still fit into the stereotype of an angry animal activist. Anyone in the animal advocacy movement should be able to sympathize. How can people, even when calmly presented with the horrors of animal exploitation, continue to participate in that exploitation? It makes one want to grab the non-vegan, and shake and shout at them until they "get it." This is not very effective.

However, there isn't always a calm, collected way to explain some of the atrocities of animal exploitation without appearing like a creepy sociopath.

With Angry Vegan Sock Puppet, a YouTube video series, we hope to present the hard truths of animal exploitation in an over the top, humorous way. The show emulates a Q&A format. Fictional (at least in the beginning) writers write in to the show with questions like “Where do vegans get their protein?” or “What’s wrong with eating animal products that come from local farms where animals are treated well?”

The questions are answered in a satirical fashion with large dollops of sarcasm, sass and humor. Citing inspiration from the likes of Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee and John Oliver, we hope to achieve for animal advocacy what those comedians have done for politics.

What's Next?

With your support, we'll be able to continue producing not only Angry Vegan Sock Puppet videos, but also other videos to help people understand the plight of animals used and abused by humans for humans.

We also hope to have a screen writing competition (get writing now) for narrative shorts that aren't overtly vegan but have underlying messages relating to animal rights.

Our long term goal is to create short and feature films with vegan cast and crew members that appeal to mass market audiences. These may not be explicitly animal rights films (think Okja, Planet of the Apes) but have strong pro-animal themes. If you'd be interested in joining the network of vegan filmmakers, please be sure to take the survey (the very first post) once you've signed up to be a patron.

With your support we can help create a better world for animals, humans and the environment.

Thank you!
