In May 2016, my best friend Sally and I co-created and launched a podcast. It was my idea--I was coming up on the one-year anniversary of finding out I was losing my job as personal assistant to my idol, and I wanted to commemorate the occasion somehow. As I folded laundry while binging podcasts one afternoon, the inspiration arrived: A YEAR AGO TODAY. A PODCAST.
It was gold.
I told Sally immediately, and like any best friend does, she said, "That's a great idea! I'll help you! We'll do it together!"
It's because of her that this podcast got made, yo.
ANYWAY. It was great. We launched a beautiful show. We did the dance of learning how to co-host. We did a lot of troubleshooting. We were in our glory. We made the thing. Consistently. For over a year!
Then, in June 2017, we went on a little break. We felt there was a big up-level coming, and the guidance we were receiving was "allow space." So we did. Before you know it, our planned three-month break had stretched out into 2018, and I'd begun to doubt if we were ever coming back.
In mid-march however, everything changed. (You can hear more about that on "Season 2 - A Prelude" in the podcast feed.) Now, we're back and better than ever with Sally producing while I take up the mantle as a solo host! You can TUNE IN:
- Thursdays for A Year Ago Today interviews, pre-recorded conversations wherein I talk with people about what was going on in their lives a year (or three or five years, or whatever) ago today,
- Tuesdays (whenever it gets posted) for what I'm currently calling Tuesday with Tyla, a segment during which I share my own current experiences around the creative process that is my emotional life
- Saturday mornings for AYATAF, post-episode discussions with my friend and sound engineer, Alex Francis, who brings a male perspective to the show that I just adore and holds space for me to work out all my issues on the air.
I'd really like to pay Sally (who isn't currently being compensated) and be able to better compensate Alex, so your contribute really helps. Also, it would be great if I could cover all the other overhead costs and have a little left over to buy myself something nice, like a day at the spa.
If you'd like to support me, my work, and my voice, I'd be thrilled to receive a gift of financial support from you.
Updated goals and rewards coming soon.
