Howdy! I'm Becky, storyteller, cellist and founder of Beanstalk Arts and front lady of family band 'Becky, Boris and the Beats'. I've been running Beanstalk Arts (formerly Nimble Tots) storytelling and music classes in South East London, as well as delivering tales for organisations including the Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre, Royal College of Music and the Horniman Museum for the past 4 years, and I'd say in a normal working week I'll work with over 150 kids and their carers! In this time I've developed a huge amount of original material and my own way of delivering classes and telling tales. With 'Becky, Boris and the Beats' we've already released one album of original family story songs which has sold around 700 copies, and have performed sold out afternoon gigs for families at the Amersham Arms and the Ivy House. I'm full of more songs to record and stories to tell - I love to tell a mixture of traditional and original stories that are full of positive role models, strong characters and lots of humour, and try my best to make music linked to these stories that is palatable to both children and their grown ups :)

In the last few months, life has gone a bit topsy turvy after I received a diagnosis of breast cancer, which has sent me, my husband and two small daughters into a very unexpected new chapter.  I've already had two surgeries, and it's likely this will be followed by chemotherapy, so I'm going to be out of delivering regular classes for some time. I might manage the odd pop up, and have arrived some dep teachers who are still running classes with our good friend Boris the Bird. But whilst my first focus is fighting the cancer hard and keeping life as normal and stable for my two girls, I still have a lot of time, energy and a zillion creative ideas to try out, and want to find a way to keep my creative side active, and my business afloat during this difficult time.

So within all the rubbish of this diagnosis, it does feel like I have an opportunity within this to find new way to run this business and still do the work I love. I'm utterly gutted not to be able to deliver classes at the moment (boo!), but a positive to take from this is that I will finally have the time to develop ideas that have been brewing for a while! I will be creating podcasts of my stories, running 'from my living room' live streams of classes and gigs, making song videos, and also recording the next batch of songs for a second album. But I need your support to make this happen and find a sustainable way to get through this period with this business afloat! So I'm using Patreon's unique 'micro-funding' model. For about the price of a cup of coffee each month, you'll receive mp3 downloads of all new songs as I record them (some of which will be on the final album), weekly videos of songs, monthly story podcasts and live streamed classes, plus a good discount on the Beanstalk Arts shop. This is a brand new venture, and as I go through treatment, with it's ups and downs, I can't promise an exact delivery schedule, but I can assure you that I will be regularly creating fresh, fun, positive and innovative content for all my lovely patrons! You'll be charged traight away on sign up, and then on the first over every month. Straight away today, if you sign up you'll unlock the first podcast of the tale of Derek the Dragon, four song videos (with new ones coming every Monday!) and an invitation to the next 'living room live' class on Sunday 28th July, I'll be in touch to give you a download code for the Story Songs album and your discount card for the shop! If you have chosen a Boris or Carol tier, your goody bags will be in the post within at the most of a week of signing up.
