Hi! I'm Bee. That's a fairly recent development, along with the they/them pronouns. You can probably guess my old name from the fact that I'm still @Benladen on twitter, which is likely how you found me. Or maybe it was that essay I wrote about Hello Kitty and Marxism, or that whole #NoDads thing? Or maybe you heard about my Valentine's Day Compilations, or have been to the videogame showcase I co-founded and have helped organize for four years at LA Zine Fest, or maybe you know me IRL or something. However it is, thanks, and hi.

In the last year and change, I've been juggling crawling toward transitioning (still just social so far) with losing work and barely making things work freelancing without bylines. I would like to get back to writing (and podcasting, and whatever else people would be interested in) in a more structured fashion. If you think that might be neat, I could really use your help.

If you'd like, here's a more complete list of things I've written. But I also dabble elsewhere as well. I've made (kind of a lot of) music, a handful of small games, a meme or two, and more. Creative work is important to me because I can't help but make it, but also because it seems odd to me to be a reader without also writing. And reading's what I like to do, in the broadest sense - of books and films and games and organizations and structures and the whole shitty playground of capitalism. Anyone who pitches in to the Patreon is more than welcome to drop me a line, and let me know what you would like to see me do more of - especially if it has anything to do with my creative works.

Concretely speaking, I'll be aiming for one new piece a month. That might be a piece of writing I put on my blog, or it might be a podcast episode - I would really like to get back to Reading Games: A Personal Critical Canon, and I have some other ideas that I'd like to start if I finish that project (or even before). At least to start, the essays will likely focus on a specific piece of media I've engaged with recently. If you want me to engage with something particular, or to try out something different, let me know - even if you aren't a patron just yet. I've been doing a lot of cooking the last year or so, maybe we could talk about that?

This means a lot to me!

Always Bee Cooking
$5 or more per month

I'm immensely appreciative. Like, choked-up-a-little appreciative.

Patrons at this level will get access to Always Bee Cooking, a Patreon-exclusive cooking blog with personal anecdotes & recipes.

Slow Commission
$10 or more per month

Oh whoa jeez. Okay.

In addition to the rewards from the previous tier, this will basically allow you to commission me once every six months. So think of any topic you'd like to see me write 2-300 words on - a game, a movie, an album, a book, a current event, a theoretical phrase - and let me know when I message you.

Commissions
$50 or more per month only 3 left

This feels aspirational.

At this tier, you're commissioning a piece from me every month (that you want to). It's going to be on the shorter side - probably between 300-800 words. But if you want to, you can pick my brain about whatever movie, topic, or question you want (within reason & subject to my approval).

Goals
$33 of $100 per month
Two Pieces per Month

At this level, I'll commit to a minimum of two pieces - hopefully one article and one podcast, with occasional games/music/etc substitutions - per month
