Aviation can be complex, and it’s easy to get lost in the clouds. In the beginning, grasping the concepts of flying can be daunting.

It doesn’t necessarily get easier after the private certificate, either. The instrument rating - while arguably one of the most interesting, if not fun, ratings - requires that the aviator not only take their existing knowledge to greater depth and breadth, but be able to apply all of the new knowledge while also flying the aircraft. The commercial rating can be equally challenging, involving more knowledge and flying skills. The ATP, being the pinnacle of certification, requires the aviator to have mastered their existing knowledge, while holding existing flying skills to tighter tolerances. The various ratings and endorsements all have their own challenges as well.

To many, it may seem to end there, but it really shouldn’t.

Whether an aviator consciously chooses to stop training at the private pilot, commercial, or ATP certificate, with any assortment of ratings or endorsements, they should be involved in a process of continual improvement.
