Brian Adam McCune is creating Adventurous Orchestral Music

I want to share with you an exciting (and ambitious) idea I have. I want to write music to accompany an entire book. The current vision is a 2-hour and 45-minute epic for narrator and orchestra. And the book is: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

As a child, I was inspired by films like Fantasia, and classical works like Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. Music is magic to me, still.

Recently, I was struck by a performance of E.T. the Extra Terrestrial as performed by the San Francisco Symphony. This major orchestra accompanied the film the entire time, and I was entranced. I awaited the End Credits music (which encompasses all of the music cues of the whole film into 4 minutes of orchestral glory), and the audience got up and started talking over this divine piece of film scoring. I think that because people saw a giant screen hovering above the orchestra, they treated the event like they were at the movies, which really turned me off.

I want to create a screenless narrative--one that uses unsung text and music together, letting the audience's imagination create the visual world. Let's take a break from screens and remember that music IS magic, and what better story is there to take us on this adventure than Alice's Adventures in Wonderland?

I'm calling this project Brian Adam McCune's BiblioSymphony. Each chapter of this classic text is around 13-15 minutes long, and I can release them episodically as they're completed. In fact, I've already recorded the full text with my talented friend Marie Masters Webb, a New York City-based opera singer. I just need to start editing the audio and then get to writing!

Once the chapters come to life, this is the kind of thing that I can foresee Awesöme Orchestra doing outside of Oakland Public Library or SF Public Library.

38 of 50 patrons
At 50 patrons, I'll do a symphonic micro-arrangement of something ludicrous: Rick Astley, The Thong Song, doesn't matter. All 50 of you will submit suggestions and then I'll pick a handful for you to vote on!
