is creating a 3rd person open world action RPG

I was hoping to get a lot more done before posting this to Patreon, but my dog has cancer and his treatment is going to cost a fortune. I'm concerned my lack of funds may impact my ability to get him the care he needs.

This game, which will be rated somewhere between Teen and Mature, is being built entirely by me.  No sample content.  No pre-built models.  No 3rd party assets of any kind.  Just one person doing it all from scratch.  Even the music.  So far, I've only put about two months into it and I've already hit my six month progress goal.

Personal, medical, and financial challenges have put this dream on the back burner for many years, but I'm no longer going to accept that excuse from myself.  It's time to make this happen, but I can't do it alone.

Being able to pay my bills, repair and upgrade computer hardware as needed, and occasionally be able to order some pizza (when I'm cooking, I'm not building my game) will give me the breathing room I desperately need to make this project a reality.  Trying to build a game while working full time and caring for a big, energetic dog with separation anxiety ....and now cancer.....is a challenge to say the least.

I hope that once I've added enough content to do the project justice, and you happen to see it, some part of it connects with you in a way that will make you want to become a patron.

In any case, I'm glad you're here (o:

:::::::::::Summary::::::::::

This is going to be a third person action game with RPG elements in the form of conversation mechanics and the process of collecting clues and solving mysteries.  Bigsby possesses upgradeable magical abilities that mostly involve revealing hidden things and enhancing his melee combat abilities.

The story I would like to tell with this game is intense and pretty big.  I may not be able to include everything this time around, but I'll do my best.

Plans change, especially when you're working on a project like this alone, so this is just a tentative road map for where this is going to go.

Like I said, I'm only two months in.  This is what I have so far.

- character models built
- bone weight mapping working well enough for a prototype
- run, walk, jump cycles
- basic attacks with collision, damage, and particle emitter effects
- dash (in progress)
- one basic enemy with chase AI
- a small amount of music
- lots of buildings, plants, and environmental elements

A lot of the more technically sophisticated and labor-intensive work is done.  Now, it's mostly a matter of fleshing it all out.

There is also a story.

:::::::::::Synopsis:::::::::::

Bigsby is purple.  He's also a bear.  As a private investigator, he handles cases that are typically mundane.   But under the surface, there are often monsters.  Through his use of magical objects and abilities, he can see them, but no one else can.  So the citizens who only see a functioning alcoholic, chain-smoking private eye have no idea that he protects them from the forces of darkness every night.  Unappreciated if not shunned outright by those he puts himself on the line for, he dispatches monsters between shots of whisky.

He does it because no one else will.

Recently, new creatures have shown up in the magical underworld the provides the framework for all of existence.  These creatures are able to punch through the veil between the two worlds to suck the life force from the unsuspecting citizens, harvesting it to bring it back to...who?

Bigsby is able to blink instantly between these worlds at will, making him uniquely qualified to face this mysterious threat.

Goals
0% complete
This is an arbitrary goal amount over an unspecified period of time, but if I could achieve this in one year, it would solve several of the more urgent problems that frequently interfere with my ability to work on my this, my passion project.

Ideally, I would like to be able to work on game design full-time.  I will achieve that goal someday, but for now, I'm doing this just for the love of doing it.
