What do running shoes sound like on loose scree? How does it feel to be alone as the sun sets over a vast mountain range? Can you describe the taste of water from cascading falls, how the earth smells after rain, what the wind looks like?

My name is Alison Young and I am the Blissful Hiker. My feet have tread upon much of the world – with oh, so much more of it still to explore! My artistic practice reflects an enduring curiosity in how we perceive this wondrous world around us, particularly through sound. And boy, will I have sounds to collect and share – plus extraordinary images – from my upcoming walk of the Pacific Crest Trail beginning July 1 starting at Hart’s Pass in the North Cascades, Washington State, on the border with Canada, and walking south towards Mexico.

As a former radio host at American Public Media, I sparked listeners’ imaginations for over a decade by painting pictures with my voice. These days, I create experiential stories through what I call “visual-audio” – podcasts-on-steroids – that provide clues as to how and what we might “see” through sound. You might say visual-audio is akin to having a picture book read aloud.

As a subscriber on my Patreon site, you will play a major role in helping me in developing my story-telling skills and learning to produce exceptional work in the field. As a way to show my gratitude, I will thank you with exclusive material from hard-to-reach and heart-stoppingly-beautiful places. You will also have the deep satisfaction of supporting an artist-walker in transition as I quite literally walk into my future.

Join me and help support this unique, artistic adventure.

I am forever grateful!
