What do running shoes sound like on loose scree? How does it feel to be alone as the sun sets over a vast mountain range? Can you describe the taste of water from cascading falls, how the earth smells after rain, what the wind looks like?

My name is Alison Young and I am the Blissful Hiker. My feet have tread upon much of the world – with oh, so much more of it still to explore! My artistic practice reflects an enduring curiosity in how we perceive this wondrous world around us, particularly through sound. For 13 years, I was a host at American Public Media and sparked listeners’ imaginations by painting pictures with my voice, kind of like having a picture book read aloud.

I've been sharing about my thru-hikes including New Zealand's Te Araroa and the United State's Pacific Crest Trail in spoken and written word, image and video. These days, I am taking the sounds I collect while thru-hiking and combining them with personal essays in my own voice for the podcast, Blissful Hiker ❤︎ Walking the World.
