About

Do you want to learn to sing harmony?  Join in and practice monthly as we build a catalogue of songs and lesson tips.   Bluegrass Harmony will teach you how to feel harmony and understand the fundamentals of music theory.  This style of harmony singing will let you be in control no matter what genre you sing.

You don't need anything but your voice to start with. Headphones or car stereo and a listening device will help with practice. Eventually you may want to dip your toes into multi-track recording.

Bluegrass Harmony is a style of harmony singing that uses the melody and the chord progression to arrange a lush, 3-part stack. A basic chord is made up of a triad, therefore, to cover all three notes it needs three singers. A beginning concept is to start with Melody in the middle, one harmony on the next chord tone above and one harmony on the next chord tone below melody. As the melody moves, harmony singers always maintain a position relevant to the melody and do not free-style crafting lines. Being predictable is the secret to bluegrass harmony in a jam session because you can instantly create a rewarding 3-part harmony structure without ever meeting each other before! This style of maintaining a relationship to the melody is difficult at first. However, once you have the concept it is yours forever and you will be that magic harmony singer who can do 3-part. The only thing left will be to learn the words.
