Hey I'm ToToM, a.k.a. Thomas BOIVIN,

You probably already know me from the Kanye of the Stone Age album that has had insane media coverage by the end of 2015, everywhere from England's The Independent to Consequence of Sound or Onion's AV Club. The feedback has been amazing. Unless you remember With Boots, a mashup album based on Nine Inch Nails' With Teeth from ten years ago, you may not know I've been making mashups for over a decade at http://www.totom.eu/ .

My goal has always been to create mashups that weren't either bad mixtapes or simply slamming two tracks together, as far as I can from either EDM and Top 40. From a starting point that can either be hearing one song while listening to another one or using another particular song, it's about making a new opus that feels like a natural song ultimately, whereas it just happens to be a mix of two different songs or more from more or less far-fetched genres.

Whereas I barely made any revenue from this activity -- I consider a few paid DJ gigs in ten years don't really count --, it's really time-intensive and processor-intensive. That's why I'm setting this page up as a mashup services portal to ultimately fund myself new hardware basically, in order to replace my already 13 year-old Powerbook I'm still using for DJ gigs and an almost equally old laptop PC for my current productions. For your information, I also have a job so this activity has always been spent on my spare time.

The reason this isn't just a standard donation campaign to beg you for money is because I want you to get something in return and let you feel involved whatever the amount you're willing to give. I've usually produced mashups based on what I feel like will sound best, and I want you to join me in making my next batch of tracks or albums because I also always loved being challenged to use on particular track (remix contests, artists), sometimes that didn't appeal to me at first and it very often ended up sounding very good. I'll still make sure whatever comes out sounds great - even if that means disagreeing with you on some things or forcing myself to use a song I don't like, which will become a challenge to take it as far as possible from the original, whether it's taking it to the foreign lands of silliness or just an extreme clash of genres.

To be completely transparent, all the money will be put into audio hardware, first it'd be a new Macbook Pro, then the renewal of my Ableton Live license... The goal isn't to get money for rent or gadgets - it's to make sure I can keep doing what I'm doing with the best tools possible.

Any intermediate contribution superior by at least 20 € to the price set up (starting from the 50 € reward) will give right to a t-shirt of your choice.

Thanks for supporting my work over the years and into the future.

The video posted is just an example of my recent work.

One bootleg idea between two artists, or one song vs another music genre. This can't be a "song 1 vs. song 2" request unless it works effortlessly, and my opinion always prevails. Donator can be credited for the idea on request.

Real time access to my personal automated tempo and key database of 2500 songs (and growing)*. It also gives you the right to ask for 10 tracks/month for tempo and key analysis by yours truly. Consider it as the DJ's gift.

* : All songs' keys and BPM have been checked by yours truly. This seems like small database but it's more detailed than any other you'll be able to find and it contains some interesting features, like a script to help you feed the mashup machine.

10 hours of lessons via Skype dedicated to Ableton Live, the DAW software I currently use and also pieces of advice on various production tricks. This can be for everyone interested by music production, from any beginner producer wannabe to an advanced user who wants to dig deeper into his technical knowledge of this wonderful piece of software. I can also provide advice on other software like Reaper, Audition among others. It could even end up into a collaboration why not. Consider it as the home producer's gift.

One mashup album -- from 10 to 20 tracks -- based on one artist/band (or even artist 1 vs. artist 2 if that's possible) or a compilation based on a concept, the donator will be credited as "concept by ...". Of course, I have to approve the idea first to make sure this is possible based on the criteria that the right instrumentals or enough "remix-ready material" are available. That can also be your own band's music or demos. On demand, it's possible to stay in touch during the mashing process so you can provide feedback on work in progress so the result comes out as good as you expect.

Privileged access that includes Ableton Live lessons on demand, online & why not IRL (traveling costs not included, they will have to be paid by the donator although I can pay for my own food wherever I'm located), personal contact details (telephone, email, Facebook and Skype). Also, it gives you the right to request one mashup album anytime you want. Exclusive and real time access to my new stuff including demos, even the bad ones, the work in progress,... (that last point can be revoked anytime if stuff gets leaked or ideas get stolen). Finally, it gives you the right to get 2 t-shirts of your choice.

This is for bands or artists (or even labels) who want to maintain a longer term collaboration with me and have their upcoming releases mashed up. It gives you the right to ask me three full mashup albums (or six EPs, or 40 single mashups) related to your entity. At least six months must separate two releases.

I allow myself the right to decline if I think the original material doesn't fill my requirements or if I think I can't fill my part of the deal. For that reason, you should contact me before getting this one, I'm open to discuss about.

You should notice that the amount set is way below market prices in terms of what a remixer could ask to a label or an artist, I guess I just set a minimum I think it is fair to ask.
