"Most people live in a very restricted circle of their potential being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness, and of their soul's resources in general, much like a man who, out of his whole organism should get into a habit of using and moving only his little finger."

- William James

Dear Reader,

I believe there is far more potential inside every human brain than we realize.

Why?

Because our brains are constrained, or shackled, in multiple ways. To realize that potential, we must first understand how our brain is shackled, and how to break free.

Those constraints include:

  1. An incomplete understanding of the true nature and scope of human intelligence.
  2. Impairments in the brain's biological function due to environmental mismatches.
  3. Limiting beliefs and mindsets about our capacity for growth and change.

I'm Dr. Josh Turknett, neurologist and founder of Brainjo.

As part of the Brainjo Collective, together we will create the ultimate operating manual for the human brain, to better understand ourselves, and to better understand the conditions for us to thrive and achieve lasting well being.

What is the Brainjo Collective?

The Brainjo Collective is a community of likeminded people interested in furthering our understanding of human brain function.

As a member of the Collective you will be:

  • Supporting the ongoing creation of an ad-free podcast on human brain function (click here to view the podcast)
  • Given access to the private, expert moderated Elite Performance forum (details below)
  • Given access to the Brain Fitness Challenges.
  • Receiving members-only content, including the Brain Protection Program course materials (released monthly)
  • Receiving the Elite Cognition Digest (by email), with links to the latest news and research in the fields of brain health and cognitive performance.
  • Be supporting and contributing to the broader mission to create an operating manual for the brain, in order to better understand ourselves, and to better understand the conditions for fulfillment and lasting well being.

The Brainjo Collective is right for you if:

  • You are a lifelong learner.
  • You are fascinated by human brain function and want to be part of our quest to understand it.
  • Protecting the health and function of your body and brain is a top priority.
  • You want to learn more about how to get the most out of your cognitive abilities and performance - and help those you live and work with do likewise.
  • You'd like to have your own Team of Advisors of experts in health, medicine, wellness, cognitive and physical performance.
  • You value expert, trusted, and unbiased information on matters of health.
  • You want to stay up to date with the latest research in this area, but don't have the time or expertise to sift through all of it.
  • You'd like to connect with others who are just as interested in these things as you are.

What kind of topics will we explore?

With a mission of understanding how to develop and realize human potential, the areas we cover will be broad ranging in scope. Some of the subjects we'll be exploring on the podcast and inside of the Elite Cognition forum include:

  • Cognitive and behavioral neuroscience
  • Evolutionary biology and ancestral health
  • Functional and integrative medicine
  • Clinical neurology
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Brain imaging
  • Computational neuroscience
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Neuroplasticity
  • Accelerated learning
  • Nutrition and metabolism
  • Alzheimer's and dementia prevention
  • Preventative medicine

About the Brain Fitness Challenges

In recent decades, a growing body of evidence indicates that engaging in cognitively demanding activities, throughout our lifespan, not only improves global cognitive function, but protects against cognitive decline and neurodegeneration.

Much like physical exercise improves and protects the function of the body, the same appears to be true of cognitive exercise. Up until recently, the idea of exercising the brain as a means of improving its health wasn't part of our awareness.

And while performing crossword puzzles or brain training apps may deliver some of these benefits, their focus on relatively narrow and artificial domains of cognition likely limit their potential benefit.

Just like whole body, functional exercises with compound movements are best for physical fitness, whole brain activities that that engage a wide swath of cognitive real estate are likely to be best for cognitive fitness. Not too mention they're often more fun!

In the brain fitness challenges, together we will engage in new learning of this type. Learning a musical instrument is one of my favorite brain-building endeavors, and so many of the brain fitness challenges will be musical in nature.

All learning activities will be informed by the Brainjo Method of instruction, which addresses not only WHAT to learn, but the process of HOW to learn it

If all that sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, then I'd love to have you as part of the Collective.

This is ultimately a collaborative endeavor, where the open and free exchange of ideas is encouraged.

So the more active, curious minds we have inside this community, the stronger it grows.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope to see you inside.
