#Lettergram: like latergram, but in the mail instead of via your social media feed!

The idea for now is to send out a monthly set of 7 or 8 "postcards" in the mail. Yep, snail mail. And printed photos. Old school, I know.

But wasn't it fun to get those envelopes of photos back from the drugstore years ago? The anticipation of not quite knowing what you're going to get until you open it up? And who doesn't love getting mail?

Each month, I'll send out a collection of 5x7 prints that all fit a theme. Think of it like a loose leaf photo essay of sorts. Some months the images might all be from a recent trip, others they might all be black and white, or all from Canada, or something else! Ideally they'll all work together to tell a bigger story than any of them could individually. That's an area I find missing on most social media, so it'll be fun to be able to design this thing however I want!

I'm not planning to make any money from this, and I'll probably lose some in the beginning, buying a bunch of envelopes and paper and such, but that's not why I'm doing it. It's an experiment in starting to push landscape and travel photography back off the screen, out of the algorithmized social media feeds, away from the advertisements and product placements, and into your actual hands.

$9 per month should, I think, just about cover the costs, if I've run the numbers correctly. That includes really nice archival-quality ink and matte paper for 7 or 8 postcards, sturdy packaging materials, and postage. It's the cheapest I can do while still making something that I'm proud of. I've looked around and I think Patreon is probably the best option here for recurring payments, since they just take a 5% fee from what I can tell, rather than a flat monthly cost, so we'll give that a shot.

This might not work, but that's part of the fun :)

Cool? Cool.

$9/month should cover the cost of printing and shipping a set of 7 or 8 postcards straight to your mailbox. They're not technically postcards, so don't plan on sending them in the mail or anything, but you can frame them, use them as notecards, hang them on your fridge or in your cubicle, give them to a friend, fold them into paper airplanes, or whatever else you want!
