About Bruce Owens Grimm

Hello. Welcome! My name is Bruce Owens Grimm and I'm a huge ghost nerd. I'm exploring the various ways memoir and nonfiction can be haunted. I've taught my Haunted Memoir workshop at StoryStudio Chicago and Arizona State University’s Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing’s Desert Nights, Rising Stars conference, which named me a 2020 Desert Nights, Rising Stars Fellow. Adam O. Davis, author of Index of Haunted Houses, called me, “social media’s go-to guy for ghosts.” I attended the 2021 Tin House Winter Workshop.

My other nonfiction publications can be found on my website, including information about the book I co-edited, Fat & Queer: An Anthology of Queer & Trans Bodies & Lives, which will be released on May 21, 2021 by Jessica Kingsley Publishing, an imprint of Hachette.

Currently, I'm working on Haunted, a memoir about queerness, grief, illness during a pandemic, and how we live with the ghosts we inherit.

Everyone is haunted in one way or another, which means everyone has a ghost story to tell. Haunted memoir is a growing field (e.g. Elissa Washuta’s White Magic, Paul Lisicky’s Later). You can read more about the subject in my essay, "Haunted Memoir," over at Assay: A Journal of Nonfiction Studies.

With your support, I can continue work on my own haunted memoir as well as explore how others are creating their own haunted stories. Please join me and my other wonderful patrons as we step into the haunted house.
