Hey DrumHeads!  If you are here, you have probably already stepped into the 'puddle of AWESOME' that is Both Sides of the Kit.  Dennis and I are proud of how far we have come in the first few seasons of BSOTK...and we're excited about the future of the show as well!

We started out with a simple premise:  "Talk about what it is REALLY like to be a drummer."

But interviewing drummers will only give you HALF of the information you need.  We wanted to talk to club owners to find out how and why they book the bands they do.  We wanted to talk to a physiotherapist about the aches and pains that come with playing an instrument.  We wanted to talk to the people who know drummers best: their wives and their bass players.

And that is exactly what we are doing...every show is a dialogue with someone who can shed light on the drumming lifestyle...from Both Sides of the Kit.

We cover topics such as "getting your band booked", "minimalist mic techniques for recording drums", "dealing with stage fright," "what your bass player REALLY thinks of you," "the drummer and married life," and much, much, more!

We reach hundreds of listeners every month with our bi-weekly show, and the audience keeps growing!

What will we use Patreon funds for?

- to offset long-term expenses such as web hosting
- to help with fuel and/or travel expenses for in-person interviews and event coverage
- to upgrade our audio equipment
- to help us sponsor drum-related events (We hope to help one charity a year by hosting drum-centric concerts and/or clinics in our region).
- to occasionally buy Dennis Ryckman an apple fritter
- to purchase snazzy bass drum stickers for our guests, patrons and sponsors

What are our long-term goals for this project?

Both Sides of the Kit is currently produced on a bi-weekly basis.  However, Dennis and I have the contacts, creativity and drive to produce a weekly [or more frequent!] show.  However, we are both limited by the need to eat and to heat our homes in the winter.

Those activities require money.  And as anybody who does podcasting can tell you...it is very, very hard to generate revenue from work that you give away for free.

So...we have day jobs...ones that pay our bills and keep us sufficiently nourished to interview drummers, club owners, bass players, physiotherapists, lawyers, etc. etc. twice a month.  If the support for the show ever gets to the point that we can do this full time...you can bet we will!

What would we say to our fans visiting this page?

We love that you guys are listening!  I can't explain how awesome it feels when someone emails me to tell me that they enjoyed the show, or that they actually learned something new because of US!

Dennis and I started this with the attitude that we would do BSOTK for our own enjoyment and if no one else listened, that would be fine with us...but you guys (and girls) ARE listening!

Thank you for listening, and thank you for supporting us.

There are some things money can't buy.  But things like the love and gratitude of a drumming podcast host and his producer?  Those things can be had for a dollar!

Support the show, and ...although I may not send you flowers on our anniversary... I will love you.  Dennis will also love you...he may or may not send flowers.

$5 a month will help us keep the lights on at Studio B.
We will eat an apple fritter in your honour and send you a nifty BSOTK sticker to display on your bass drum, road case or car bumper!

We are new to the whole Patreon experience, but Dennis and I are already talking about providing a little extra content for our Patreon family...this is the level where you will get access to that extra content.

(***Disclaimer...that "extra" content may just be Dennis and I talking about the music we are listening to, or food we are eating...we cannot guarantee that all "Patreon-exclusive" content will be AWESOME!, but we will try.***)

With $100 a month donation, you allow us to do cool things like drive to Toronto and pester store owners during drum clinics!

We can start thinking about doing a little advertising or consider upgrading to better mics so I don't always sound like I have a head cold.  Etc Etc..

Dennis and I will eat a box of apple fritters in your name.  (Yes it will be difficult, but that is the kind of love and loyalty $100 a month buys!).

We will also send  you a very cool "Step into the puddle of AWESOME!" BSOTK T-shirt [please inbox your size] as well as a nifty BSOTK sticker!

More importantly, we will give you an on-air "Thank you!" during every episode we record during your patronage.  We can use your name, your company's name, your pet's name or the name of your favourite drummer...whatever you wish.

So, if you love the show, and want to hear "Both Sides of the Kit appreciates the generous support of [your name here]!" every episode, this is the patronage level for you!

We will also give you monthly "shout outs" on our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
