Hello, and welcome!

Writing and cooking for Bummed Out Baker is a great joy. A time-consuming, sometimes expensive joy! If you enjoy reading Bummed Out Baker as much as I enjoy creating it, I'd be so grateful if you'd consider donating $1 a month to support me so that I may be able to continue turning out consistent content and eventually expand the site to have more features and to post more frequently.

ABOUT:

My name is Bailey Powell Aldrich and I am the writer, cook, and photographer behind Bummed Out Baker, a blog about mental illness and vegetarian cooking.

I’ve been cooking and baking vegan/vegetarian food for 10+ years. When my food received rave reviews from meat eaters and vegans alike, I decided to share recipes and pictures on a blog in my spare time. A food blog by itself didn’t seem completely true to me, though.

Enter the “bummed out” part. Most of my life has been spent trying to make sense of, cater to, or mask my depression and anxiety. It’s exhausting. Often I’ve felt misunderstood, helpless, and so, so alone. So, Bummed Out Baker was born, a safe haven where you’ll find delicious recipes and transparency on mental illness.

I live in New York City with my husband Rick and am currently in grad school working toward my MFA in Creative Writing, Nonfiction at The New School. I love black clothes and my two XL golden retrievers, which means I spend a lot of time with a lint-roller. I deeply value inclusion, word impeccability, and kindness.

Ultimately, I’m here to provide community and laughter to those suffering from mental illness or those in close proximity to someone suffering from mental illness.
