        About

Fuel Burnt Lemon Theatre’s fire by supporting our critically acclaimed musical productions!

        How the lemons ignited

Burnt Lemon Theatre was founded by Cara Baldwin and Hannah Benson when they met training on the renowned BA Acting & Contemporary Theatre course at East 15 Acting School. Supported by the New Diorama Graduate Emerging Company Award and the East 15 Graduate Award, they staged their first all female, all punk production ‘The Half Moon Shania’. The show played at several festivals including VAULT 2019 and won Musical Theatre Review’s ‘Best Musical Award’ at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018. Tanya Agarwal then joined the team as Producer, making the strong pair an unmovable three.

Burnt Lemon Theatre went on to win New Diorama/ Underbelly’s UNTAPPED award, which spurred on the creation of their electrifying new musical ‘Tokyo Rose’. During their sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019, ‘Tokyo Rose’ was awarded the prestigious Les Enfants Terribles Stepladder Award. The show continues to gain traction and recently completed a successful run at the New Diorama Theatre.

Lastly, here’s a few words from Allan Wilson, who has kindly supported Burnt Lemon Theatre for the past two years:

"In the days before Covid-19, I was once described as ‘possibly the biggest fan of theatre at the Fringe’, typically seeing 60 – 70 shows every August, and a further 30 to 40 performances during the rest of the year. I see and enjoy a lot of theatre, and just occasionally I come across something that really grabs me – that’s what Burnt Lemon do for me. I first came across them through a crowdfunding tweet in 2018, followed up by a recommendation from a friend. I started to support them and had my faith more than rewarded when I saw their first Edinburgh production, the award-winning Half Moon Shania. Full of attitude, energy and thought, it blew me away! In 2019, Tokyo Rose had a similar impact, using great production values and excellent music to bring a half-forgotten story from World War Two back to life.

I am delighted to support Burnt Lemon Theatre and hope you will too!"
