About

Welcome to this Patreon pagePatreon is a membership platform. Using Patreon, creators establish perks and tiers for patrons, offering exclusive content and access in exchange for financial support. Like an ongoing Kickstarter, Patreon allows creators to crowdfund their work.

The Canadian Highways Network began in 2010. Two Manitoba women could find no reliable resources for highway driving conditions in their province. They live in the rural north and knew there had to be a better way to get updated faster. They knew a network of actual drivers was necessary - and so they set to work.

They started an online group for drivers who could update each other in real time. It became popular fast and truckers, along with other long distance travelers requested they cover the entire country.

The Canadian Highways Network was born and offered a public Facebook page to let more drivers know about the groups.

When things got really busy, they added voluntary group moderators, (also known as superheroes) to the groups to help maintain the standard of excellence it had established. It has gone so well that they are now rated #1 for fastest reliable highway updates in Manitoba!  The groups average approx. 18,000 spam free posts a month.

These groups do not permit spam, viral links, fake accounts, drama, chats or junk posts. The highway update groups are for information sharing only.

Becoming a patron (selecting a Tier and purchasing a subscription with patron benefits) is not an OBLIGATION or a REQUIREMENT, it has been set up for those who wish to support The Canadian Highways Network.  You don't have to be a group member to be a supporter. **

THE HIGHWAY GROUPS
  • it is a set of online Facebook groups designed to connect a network of drivers who travel the same highways in Canada. They are offered a safe, monitored space (group) where they can update on conditions traveled or ask questions about a route they will be using.
  • Administrators and moderators are present to filter information within the group (ensuring junk is removed) and to uphold the group rules. For example, no police check stop locations, driver side or accident photos are permitted. The groups do not allow rudeness or bullying. Members appreciate the group because of the no BS, no junk posts policy.

WHAT THE GROUPS DO
  • they create a network of drivers and;
    • a space to share highway travel conditions, wildlife alerts, etc.
    • post alerts of highway closures (and re-openings)
    • post emergency notifications, accident locations and detour information
    • offer important weather conditions and updates
    • list school closures (faster than online news media can get lists created)
    • share Canadian Highways Network main page information.
    • relay important highway information from organizations (ie: RCMP, Fire Depts, Amber Alert) fast
    • host and offer updates 24/7 year round. Other sites are not reporting regularly or after hours/holidays

WHERE DO WE FIND THE GROUPS?
Currently you must be a member of Facebook to use our groups. You can find the groups and join FREE here: www.canadianhighwaysnetwork.ca

WHERE WE HAVE HELPED

March, 2016 - Accident on Highway (Manitoba Highways)
The admins were contacted on Easter Monday to relay information to group members quickly about a closure and detour. Sadly, a fatality had occurred on the highway along with numerous others injured and the STARS helicopter was needed to get people to hospital. The admins alerted thousands of drivers immediately to the closure and followed up later when it reopened.

May, 2018 - Camper, Ashern, Mulvihill Fires
Highway #6 in Manitoba - posted closures and updates.
Provided online emergency updates for residents of the area and for those who live farther away but had relatives in the affected areas. Highways closed in various stretches and alerts were needed more often to remind drivers of the dangers of crossing barriers.

 October, 2019 - Snowstorm/Power Outage
(2 weeks in some areas)
Manitoba HighwaysWinnipeg City Updates and Highway #6 in Manitoba groups all maintained updates, emergency posts and member support (via email & message) to those who needed it. There were 22,000 posts requesting and sharing information during this month.

There are thousands more, but those are some of the major ones over the years.

WHERE HAVE THE NETWORK GROUPS BEEN SEEN?

WHAT DO OUR GROUP MEMBERS SAY?

Ooooohhhhhhhhh the things they are sayin'!
(All are incredible, but the all-time favourite is first on the list by Mr. Ed Dean!)

Goals
0% complete
The Canadian Highways Network is all about keeping drivers informed and safer on the highways. We were asked to 'set a goal' in this space, but it doesn't have a place for LIVES SAVED and MINDS EASED. That is what matters to us the most.

Our goal is to save millions of people by bringing them together in a space where they can provide and request highway updates with the fastest response times ever. No spam, no drama and no useless ads.

Alerts on accident location, re-route info, wildlife and weather alerts. We're a group created by drivers for drivers.
