DARK FICTION FOUND HERE.

You want stories that acknowledge that shit we survive has effects
(Thus why you’re visiting this spot on Patreon.)

I want to be able to write more and still pay bills.
(Okay, and I like making stuff for people.)

And thus, we twain shall meet.
(And if you wanna see a sample first to confirm that I can actually, yanno, write, check out the freebie tag.)

Hi. I’m Misti, also known as “Carradee”, and I write fantasy and science fiction about people who don’t conform with conventional definitions of “normal”. Trauma, “invisible” illnesses, the asexual spectrum—all make appearances in my work.

Some characters muddle through the consequences of their ancestors’ poor decisions (Chronicles of Marsdenfel); some are illegal immigrants who hop universes and had good reason for leaving but still aren’t in the best place (Displaced Shadows) and more.

I like making stories of various lengths, and I want to be able to make more with more immediate bonuses for readers. Patreon lets me swap story-based gifts for something that can help pay bills so I can spend even moar time writing. Woot!

  • Get early-bird access to stories not yet available anywhere else that focus on the characters, like a mute girl who’s the POV in the freebie “In the Hands of the Smith” and in the available-to-patrons sequel, “In the Minds of Children”.
  • Vote with your wallet to say you want stories like this to exist.
  • Get warm fuzzies for helping an artist spend more time creating.

If you sign up, you’ll be getting stories weeks or months before they appear anywhere else.

Each month, I will release up to two not-yet-released original pieces of fiction (2,000–7,000 words) that is or are not available on Wattpad or anywhere else. A minimum pledge of $1 per month will get you access to each story as it comes out and the previously released advance-access stories. Pledging more than that per story can get you things like what notes I made to myself while planning and writing the story, or a hangout with me, or the right to name a cameo character.

You pledge an amount you’ll provide per short story I release on Patreon, under the patronage model. As of this writing, you get charged at the first of the month, but Patreon’s looking at revising that.

You can set a cap on the amount you donate, to make certain it doesn’t surpass a specific amount per month. I suggest you use this. Even if you’re willing to support 5 stories in a month (which I’m highly unlikely to hit, anytime soon), a cap will also protect you against accidents. You can change the amount you donate or the cap on your donation at any time.

(Folks under the age of 18 need parental permission to pledge. Just a legal note for Patreon. If you’re not yet a legal adult, you should probably be checking with your parents before reading these stories, anyway.)

You can find out more about Patreon in the virtual help desk.

Thank you for your interest in being one of my patrons!

As of this writing, I’m currently in the middle of shifting to a new setup for the new year. I’ve been poking at my new edition of Scrivener and figuring out export settings, which should help smoothen out my process and help me get the old stories converted to the new formats.

The fun thing about being a patron, of course, is what you get for it. So what options are there for rewards? (All dollar amounts listed are USD.)

  • Helium: $1.00 / creation (which is, sadly, the lowest round number I can set at this time)
Soothe your hot nerves with a short story that will, in some fashion, illustrate that you are not alone in being aware of various forms of jerk in the world.
  • Neon: $2.00 / creation
Escape further into the author’s mind with notes and annotations through the story. These can be a description of the writing process, a reference of where I got a detail, a comment about a topic, and more.
  • Argon: $3.00 / creation
Shield yourself from the mess of DRM and remembering what device your stories will work on by getting an EPUB, a MOBI, a PDF designed for reading on your computer.
  • Krypton: $5.00 / creation
Get my measure via an online chat, held online, AND a copy of whatever other self-published releases I have on Amazon and such. (Full disclosure: These are very…intermittent, right now, and I reserve the right to put a cap on how many titles are included in the future.)
  • Xenon: $25.00 / creation
Propel yourself through your nervousness and get an author’s input on what’ll help you grow as a writer. You’ll have to tell me your goals and share a sample of your writing, and I’ll share what I think will benefit you most as you move towards your next goal.
  • Radon: $50.00 / creation
Help grow a side character by giving them your name (or the name of your choice). I make no promises that they’ll be a nice character, or that they’ll appear more than once. I rarely know that until I write it.

Yes, my rewards tiers pluck at the noble gases and how they show up in life as a joke.

What can I say? I miss chemistry class.

Goals
$7 of $2,500 per creation
You get a novel-length "Choose Your Path" game, set in Aleyi.

The game starts off in Saf, the capital city outside the castle, during A Fistful of Fire. You're a young mage, born dockside to parents terrified by magic. They kick you out, and you have to decide how you'll survive.

The game is partially written, and patronage will let me focus on that, get illustrations, and get it released.
