Brenden Bourne It's actually far worse here in the UK, because over here there are 6 parties that now consistently get significant numbers of votes. In the US FPTP somewhat still works, because for the most part there are still only 2 parties that get the vast, vast majority of votes. The most significant problems with the US election system is gerrymandering (for Congress) and the Electoral College (for President).

Brenden Bourne Choice means nothing when the system is FPTP and gives the seat to whichever candidate gets the plurality, which is almost never also the majority when you've got more than two or three candidates.

Robert Was it intentional that this video should be viewable by everyone right now? Your note about "early access" doesn't seem to hold up, since I was able to watch this before I logged in to Patreon. It's also publicly available on your youtube channel. So I'm not really sure what "early access" is supposed to mean, here. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not *complaining*. I'm just confused.

old_MK Excellent! However, if I have to look like a NMR in order to live longer, then never mind! No, seriously, it's good research to maybe help some people with certain medical conditions, I suppose, or perhaps to help us to look and feel younger and better while we're here, but I certainly DON'T want to live forever. 70 - 100 years is plenty for me, thank you!

Eva Jung That was an amazing video. Thank you for the thoughtful and empathetic presentation. I experienced much the same thing, but far more abusively. I wasn't able to break away from faith until my late twenties, and was even a youth pastor. I often feel alone because there aren't many around me that aren't faithful. Your video made me feel like it's not wrong to be open about what I dis-believe. I've often found myself self censoring so as not to offend others or be put under the microscope and judged amoral or "lacking something". Fear is a huge motivator to silence and, even though I haven't believed in years, I was so thoroughly indoctrinated that I still have brief moments of doubt based solely on the fear of Hell. Your video allayed a lot of that. I'll likely still have the moments of sudden irrational fear but I don't think I can ever consciously think of the possibility of Hell as a reality again. Thanks so very much. I only wish I could contribute to more such thought provoking, inspiring videos but, alas, I'm extremely poor. Unbelievably, this makes it even harder to not try to fit in with the sheep simply for the sake of hope and companionship. Your video gave me hope for my children because we didn't indoctrinate them and wanted them to have free choice. They've chosen atheism and I'm truly proud of them for challenging the conventions of our largely religious community. Thanks, Again.

TheraminTrees Thank you for your message. I'm glad you found the video helpful — particularly that it helped mitigate the fear of hell, which is such a repulsive concept to implant in people's minds. I've had a lot of correspondence about the fear of hell over the years, which is what prompted me to include that hell-contemplating portion of my deconversion. I've said for many years that I find the idea of hell simultaneously the most offensive and the most moronic concept to come out of christianity — and there's some competition. Yes, I think fear — and approval — can be huge motivators to silence. So important to cut both of those down to size. I hope you and your children are able to carve a decent space for yourselves in your community.
