About Cave Spring Park

The mission of Cave Spring Historic Site and Nature Center is twofold:1. to preserve and interpret the historical significance of Cave Spring Historic Site, its role in the local area, and the natural resources that contribute to the site’s significance 2. to provide affordable-free educational and recreational programs to the local community.
Cave Spring is a 39 acre historic site and nature park located in Southeast Kansas City. The area includes a nature center with permanent and changing exhibits, historic sites, ruins, picnic area, hiking trails, wildlife pond habitat, butterfly garden, creek branches, spring and small cave. The site is located at the Intersection of Gregory Boulevard and Blue Ridge. We annually serve 75,000+ guests of which over 20,000 are youth under 16 years of age.
The Cave Spring Association was incorporated in 1976 by members of the local community to purchase and preserve area for future generations.Using matching funds from the State of Missouri and Jackson County Parks Department the Association was able to purchase the land.
The Cave Spring Association for the past 40 years has been one of the few privately run and minimally funded free public access parks in Jackson County. The Park has developed close ties with the local community, Scout Troops, Churches and other groups to provide volunteer labor for the majority of its labor needs.
Cave Spring Park offers year round student programs and works closely with local grade schools and middle schools, both private and public to offer conservation classes, tours and outdoor programs to introduce the children to local natural resources.
Using a volunteer staff over the past 40 years Cave Spring Park is consistently listed as one of best free places to take family and children as well as being on KCUR’s Top 10 places to Hike in the Kansas City Area.
The park is well known for being a safe and family friendly place to come for picnics, family hikes and nature watching.
