JR Goldberg is creating small, unambitious games

My name is JR Goldberg, and I publish small tabletop RPGs. The tabletop board game and role playing game world has long been a passion of mine, and I have long made things for personal use, but only recently started making them publicly available. Truthfully, I have been shocked and overwhelmed by the response. In light of some of the positive feedback I have received, I have been encouraged to make a patreon to create consistent new work and games.

I must confess that philosophically, I have been hesitant to create a payment system for my creative endeavors. To be transparent, I work full time, and I am lucky enough to make a living where I do not have to rely on my freelance income to make ends meet. I have long held the belief that there is a finite amount of money to go around within the TTRPG community, and the last thing I would ever want to do is have a fan feel as though they have to make a decision to purchase something I have made in lieu of something made by a creator who is more reliant on their games to help make ends meet.

I have a steadfast belief that the RPG community is an ecosystem. I pledge this: much of the money that will come in through this patreon will go back to helping other creators make my games better. I believe that I have some strong mechanical ideas, and I have been told that I am a passable writer. This does not mean that I have any clue how to lay out a game effectively, or what art should be included, or what to look for while testing what I've created. I know many people that have similar ideologies to me, and the money that comes in through this patreon will go to those people in order to make more complete and professional creative work for you, my patrons, to enjoy.

I have a few ideas for award tiers that will be detailed. I also want to note that many people know me for my writings on professional wrestling. I will have a tier set aside where I will do match reviews and private articles for people if they want to give for that, but not my games.

Thank you, everyone, for everything you have done thus far for me. I feel truly overjoyed every day when someone downloads a game, or reads an article. I love to create, and I hope this will give me an opportunity to do so in ways that will enrich me as a game designer, and you as a game player.
Tiers
A hearty handshake
$1 or more per month

This tier will give you access to My early drafts and notes on games for upcoming jams, along with a monthly digest of what I'm planning and working on.

Cheaper Rasslin
$1 or more per month

I will do brief reviews of whatever weekly wrestling I watch, probably highlighting one match that I think is noteworthy in some way. I will probably also write about PPVs.

You will also get access to the $1 Game tier. It's free content.

Free Stuff
$4 or more per month

Every game that I put on itch or elsewhere that is priced for $5 and under, you will receive a download code or copy.

You will also receive everything from all previous tiers.

Postcards from the Edge
$8 or more per month

You will tell me a game you like, or a character you have, or a theme that interests you. Once quarterly, I will mail you a postcard with a small game, magical item, or mini dungeon that I think you will enjoy based upon what you tell me.

You also receive every reward from all previous tiers.

Rasslin
$10 or more per month only 9 left

This is a completely separate reward level for people who enjoy my wrestling writing. Once quarterly, you may request a match for me to review. I will publish it somewhere to be determined or just send it to you.

You can also get the $1 and $5 game tiers if you'd like, but I won't force you.

Goals
$31 of $100 per month
With $100, I'll be able to develop and maintain the necessary collaborative relationships to create games with art and professional layouts.
