Hey there, thanks for checking out my Patreon site :)

I'm Dorian Zgraggen, the guy behind cgbookcase.com.

As you probably know, I create free PBR textures. Currently, there are more than 200 textures available for download on the site.

PBR stands for "physically based rendering", which means that the textures not only consist of one image but of multiple ones.

These different types of images are called maps. The different maps tell the render engine information about the material.

For instance, this weird looking normal map adds fake bumps and dents to the material, which will make it look more realistic / detailed without adding extra geometry:

Or this grayscale roughness map defines, how rough the reflections of different parts of a material should be:

All the textures on cgbookcase.com consist of five to six maps (except for surface imperfections): A color map, normal map, height map, roughness map, ambient occlusion and metallic (if necessary).

The textures on the website are not only free, I also released them into public domain. All the textures are licensed as CC0, which means you can do anything with them.

You can use them for commercial as well as non-commercial projects, you can publish & sell them as part of a 3d model on Turbosquid or you can even resell the textures on their own. You can also share them with your friends. You can literally do anything with them. Plus, you don't even have to give credit.

I add twelve new textures every other week (usually on Friday), which are available for download on cgbookcase.com/downloads.

What is Patreon?

Patreon is a great way to accept donations on a monthly basis. Your support allows me to invest more time into creating textures and buy gear and software.

If you have a few bucks left, I'd highly appreciate it if you decide to become a patron. :)

  • Shooting high res textures with a low res camera
  • Shooting large-scale textures with the help of photogrammetry software
  • Shooting large-scale textures with the help of "panorama software"
  • Shooting textures of complex objects (like bark textures, which are harder to do because a tree trunk isn't flat)
  • Shooting leaf textures using a simple diy studio setup
