Hello. I want to introduce you CG overlay. CG from Computer Graphics.
CG overlay is a package repository for gentoo-based linux operating systems.
https://github.com/brothermechanic/cg

Advantages of CG overlay and gentoo-based linux distributions:
1) Base of cg packages as in no any other distribution
The latest versions of the packages are already in your overlay!
Forget about manual compilation and packeting!
Get packages directly from git!
Custom patches!
Quick search on the overlay database.

Excellent applications for the designer on linux are not so many and often you need install directly from GIT, respectively, to meet these applications in distributions is very difficult.
Blender community has become very large with a lot of blender addons. Sometimes it is not easy to find the right one or even to find out about its existence.

2) Automatic update including addons
Manual update of addons in the past!
Update all installed software - one click!
Portage is a very powerful and advanced tool for configuring and managing system packages.

3) Configuring packages with considering your requirements (use flags) and hardware
The most flexible setting of the software installation.
Only what you need will be installed!
There is no extra garbage from which the distro can significantly slow down.
Automatic application of flags of your processor and video card to all installed packages!

4) openimageio, opencolorio, opensubdiv, osl, openexr, alembic, and more ...
Yes, we have these libraries.

Despite the importance of these libraries, distribution maintainers are slow to include them in their registry. Very strange!

5) Additional cg software for vfx production and game developing.
Djv, micmac, NormalmapGenerator and other important tools.

6) Test packs myself personally, including the production environment.
Usually the maintainer collects something that he never uses. In the CG overlay, I personally use all the packages in the production environment.

7) Speed Speed Speed!
Test your installed blender on http://blenchmark.com/
And compare your CPU and GPU time with others OS!
For example my time on gentoo
with i7-3610QM  https://goo.gl/QC1aXj
and GTX660M https://goo.gl/4baHRh
Do you see it!?

How to install an overlay

Calculate Linux is recomended. http://www.calculate-linux.org/
