The Los Angeles Review of Books China Channel goes beyond the headlines and brings to life Chinese culture, society and history in all its addictive complexity, publishing four to five new posts each week. We look at China’s politics and economics, but also its comic books, crossdressers and philosophy, at new memes and hidden histories. We appeal to the general reader and the seasoned China hand alike, and take ‘China’ to mean the broader sinosphere and Chinese diaspora around the world, not just the People’s Republic Of.

We want to bring more voices from China to the English-speaking world. That requires funds to commission Chinese authors as well as translators, so that Chinese writing which would otherwise remain inaccessible can be read by you. And that’s where you come in. Your contribution will support translations of the best Chinese writing, from emerging talents to celebrated authors, investigative reports to personal essays, alongside the occasional short story and poem. Help China’s most thoughtful and powerful writers speak to you.

We need your support to thrive. Thank you for your help!
