About

I'm Chris Randall, and I make things. I'm constantly experimenting (and often failing) with new electro-acoustic and electronic instruments and performance methods, visual experiences, and audio-visual art, both kinetic and static. With my trusty CNC machines (router and mill), a soldering iron, and ugly-but-servicable C++, I'm exploring, and between explorations I have opinions. Lots of opinions. I love to share, both my explorations and my opinions, and to talk about creativity and creations with like-minded people.

If you need a bit of resumé, for 17 years I've had the popular music tech blog Analog Industries, and co-owned Audio Damage, Inc., where I design music technology products. (I've also designed some dope stuff that you probably use for iZotope, Eventide, TASCAM, Cycling '74, and other companies.) Before that, my wife and I had a record label, and I did lighting and stage production design, and before that, I was a professional musician, signed to Wax Trax!/TVT. Yay, 90s music industry! Before that, if you care, I was a bike messenger in New York City, which should tell you exactly where I fall on the Crazy Scale, because that seemed like "fun" and furthermore "a good idea" to me at the time.

With this Patreon, I am creating a community of like-minded folks who want to make things and talk about creativity and music tech, and giving you access to my 30+ years of experience in the music industry and creative arts. In the process I'll gain from your advice and insight as well, so we can all improve our skillsets. If you join our community, you'll receive a steady stream of creative inspiration as I generate it (sample packs, audio, art, software, et al). In addition, you'll get access to the full Analog-Industries-style ongoing conversation about creativity, art, and music technology, with the added benefit of a semi-walled garden for more candid conversations than are possible on a normal blog or via social media. You'll get first crack at all my media generation (videos, music, art, etc.) and private members-only limited-run things like hand-built instruments and hand silk-screened prints, and direct access to me for advice and ideas to help your own process.
