I've volunteered at a South Carolina wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center for nearly five years -- and written stories for a lot longer than that. My short stories are in print and online anthologies and magazines.

The first time I got to spend around baby raccoons, I fell in love. Not only are they adorable and curious and affectionate; they're also an important part of our ecosystems. However, they're terribly misunderstood, which can cost them and their parents their lives.

I wrote Raccoon Rescue to show how surprisingly much humans have in common with raccoons, but that first book is only the beginning. I'm working on additional books in the series, not just about raccoons, but also about "nuisance animals" like beavers, skunks, and others. And, I'm working towards including curriculum so that classroom teachers, homeschoolers, summer camps, and other rehabbers can use my books towards education.

All books in the Living Wild Side by Side series are printed in the Dyslexie font to help children with learning disabilities to read more easily, and a portion of profits from book sales go to help Izzie's Pond, the rescue where I volunteer.

Fund my next book! The kits you met in Raccoon Rescue -- Roxy, Rufus, and Renae -- are almost full-grown when development destroys their home. Will they be able to escape predators and natural disasters to find a new home?
