About

Hello comrades. Welcome to the Round Table.

This page is a response to the growing community of aerialists and movement artists I've had the honor of working with across several continents, the fact that physically traveling to these communities with any regularity is both economically and environmentally unsustainable, and the overwhelm of trying to keep meaningful connections through the hectic world of Instagram. I've loved being able to share my journey on the 'gram and will always continue to share ideas and open-source choreography there as time allows, but the need is apparent for a closer community space - an Inner Circle - where your ideas and questions and stories are always at the top of my inbox.

For years I wished for a straightforward way to thank and support the artists who have most impacted my work - and Patreon gave me a solution! I will always share large portions of my work freely, but this Patreon is a place to share the really juicy stuff: works in progress, behind the scenes, mountains of fails, and the first buds of success. It's a place I can merge my love of both circus arts AND writing.

Who I Am and What I Do:
I'm a professional mover with roots in the flow arts scene, my heart in the aerial world, and at least one curious toe stubbornly in the realm of partner acrobatics. In the 10 years since I took my first flying trapeze class, I've made the slow transition from obsessive circus enthusiast to full-time professional, leaving my string of odd jobs (from academic administrator to barista to live-in nanny) to teach and perform. I've taught circus workshops at retreats, festivals, and intensives in seven countries, and am working to pivot my career more toward performance in the coming year. This is new, terrifying, electrifying ground.

Current Projects:
Some of what you can expect to see on this platform (subject to unforeseen opportunities, global pandemics, collapse of the world economy, or sudden influxes of distracting puppies):

  • Bi-weekly blog posts. These can be updates on creative projects, entertaining stories, informational articles, fail compilations, philosophic musings, or just about anything else I deem relevant. This is where I'd love YOU to join the conversation!
  • An independently produced circus show. Currently in development, my aim for the year is to film preliminary footage to apply for grants and residencies, with the ultimate goal of bringing the completed show to Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals. (More details available to patrons only!)
  • Aerial research: as well as continuing to explore the possibilities of my 'home apparatus,' aerial hoop, I'm researching movement on a new apparatus: uneven loop aerial chains. This particular setup, while not unique in the world, is rare and ripe for new discoveries.
  • Hula Hoop research: by working with contortion, handbalance, and circus-style hula hoop coaches, I'm steering my style in a more acrobatic direction. I aim to meld this athletic precision with movement improvisation and dance to create sequences that are both of a high technical level, and refreshing even to the trained eye.

...Due to the present collapse of public life as we know it, formal opportunities to present new work in a traditional theatre setting are slim to none. In the spirit of 'if doors don't open make your own damn door,' I'll be creating opportunities to showcase new work online until we can gather in person once again.
