Music history is a window into cultural history, and only in understanding cultural history can we truly gain insight into understanding the past as prologue.  Why did artists do what they did?  What trends were they setting, or reacting against?  Most importantly, how does that help us understand our culture today?

So ... hi! I'm Thomas—better known as the Classical Nerd—and I'm a composer, pianist, occasional organist, and overall musicology aficionado.  When I realized that there was no active resource for substantive music-history content on YouTube, I started this channel to fill that niche (especially for auditory learners).  What began life as a side project has grown into something relevant, helpful, and meaningful for educators and students the world over— and with your help, it can become even better, from upgrading the hardware and software I use to produce videos to doing more interviews to taking the show on the road to significant musicological sites.

If you enjoy what I do and want to help in keeping it going, please consider kicking in a few bucks per month.  It may sound clichéd, but every little bit helps; I'm a one-man operation.  For those who'd prefer to get something in return for a one-time donation, my music (in both recording and sheet-music forms) is available via my Bandcamp page.

All revenue from the channel goes towards improving production quality.  At $100/month, I can invest in better audio equipment, more robust editing software, and the kinds of back-end stuff that make productions smoother.
