The construction of the Congo Peace School is finished, and this is where YOU come in, getting in on the ground level of this groundbreaking movement! School started on September 3rd with four of the eventual 12 classes: 1st and 2nd grade primary, and 1st and 2nd grade secondary are in session. We're asking you to commit to a monthly investment, from $3 to $100 or more per month to help us staff the school and provide the best learning tools, daily meals, and environment for these kids in Congo to thrive!

What do you get for your investment? Right off the bat, as a monthly donor via Patreon, you receive an exclusive once-a-month update straight from Amani at the Congo Peace School. Long-term, you’re investing in the world we all want to see – one filled with educated young leaders who are focused on creating peace, who understand that when one suffers, we all suffer. We are all connected, caught up in this tapestry of life. Help us create a more caring, compassionate world by investing in this unique approach to education in Congo.

The scope of this need is vast: while we search for sustainable funding, your monthly commitment allows us to open the school and plan for the future. To give you an idea of the need: for every increment of $325 / month ($650, $975), you have paid for another secondary school teacher! (We will eventually need to hire 6.) Every time we reach an additional $300 / month, you have paid for a primary school teacher! For every increment of $12 / month, you have paid for one student's uniform or backpack. The need is great, and we are grateful for your investment and connection to these students, the future peaceful leaders of Congo.

Through their Dillon Henry Foundation, Harriet Zaretsky and Steve Henry committed the capital to build the Congo Peace School, and with Action Kivu’s additional funding and the generous support of the Pour Les Femmes Fund and its co-founders, Robin Wright and Karen Fowler, the Congo Peace School construction is on track to be finished by the end of July 2018. With the generous guardianship of the Dillon Henry Foundation, we realized our Founding Director Amani Matabaro's dream of building this unique school, and now Action Kivu is eager to fill it with books, desks, computers, nutritional meals, teachers, and children!

We're funding a full school of 12 grades within three years, and no donation is too small. Please share this campaign! We want to have a massive family supporting these students and this peace movement.

The Congo Peace School is an amazing facility that not only will provide impoverished and vulnerable youth with a quality education, but the children will also be trained in the principles of Kingian non-violence, human rights, and social justice. With a trauma-informed pedagogy and trained staff, the children will receive the emotional support they need, as well as be provided with meals (many children are extremely food insecure). After school, they will learn practical, vocational lessons in growing organic food and animal husbandry.

Amani Matabaro is the Founding Director of Action Kivu and the co-founder and Executive Director of ABFEC, the local Congolese organization for which Action Kivu, a U.S. based nonprofit, raises funds and awareness to provide the resources for ABFEC’s community-based initiatives that foster equality for women and children in the Democratic Republic of Congo [DRC]. The Dillon Henry Foundation [DHF], a U.S. based non-profit, engaged with Amani’s vision of the Congo Peace School, seeing its alignment with their mission to create a worldwide community of individuals who show compassion and are compelled to take personal responsibility to change the world for the better.

Thank you for joining us - your investment will change lives, not only of the kids in Congo, but in the world, as the ripple effect of peace-filled people with agency creates more peace!

Donations to Action Kivu are tax deductible: Action Kivu, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) charity in the United States. Our EIN is 27-3537799 - Patreon will send you an email confirming your monthly commitment for you to reference for your U.S. taxes.

$30 or more per month provides two daily, nutritious meals for one student. Many children in this region eat only one meal a day, if that. Skipping breakfast is associated with decreased cognitive performance (e.g., alertness, attention, memory, processing of complex visual display, problem solving) among students. (CDC) The Congo Peace School will provide a holistic learning environment, feeding the minds, spirits, and bodies of our students. Access to exclusive content posted here, including a monthly video update!

$150 or more per month pays the salary of one of the school cooks (and provides a job to one of the local women in the community) to prepare healthy meals for the students. Our secondary teachers earn $325 / month, if you can commit more!

Food for thought: Action Kivu operates a teaching farm, and will be employing those organic farming lessons to the land around the Peace School, with the aim to eat off the land in a sustainable way. Access to exclusive videos and photos posted here!
