What is SCP: Containment Breach?SCP: Containment Breach is a spiritual successor to the indie horror success created by Regalis in 2012. It is based on the collaborative writing experiment The SCP Foundation, and includes many of the artifacts, entities, and events contained on the official wiki.
The game's goal is simple - Survive, if you can.
Why a Unity Remake?
The original game was a smashing hit, but that was back in 2012 - the engine the old game was developed on hasn't been upgraded in years. Remaking the game in a modern engine will ensure better graphics and framerates, allow for the latest and greatest coding technology, and ensure that the game is supported well into the future!
Note to early Patrons: SCP: Containment Breach was originally advertised as little more than a remake using the Unity Engine. Due to the overwhelming support we’ve received we have since pivoted and the game is a spiritual successor to the original game. This means that we will add and remove from/to the original game to accomplish the scope of our vision.
Is this project just screenshots?
Nope! You can download and try our playable general release today! It's early on, but you can experience SCP-173, SCP-106, and other iconic SCPs in a modern engine!
Project Goals1) Recreate the experience of the original in Unity. No longer a straight port, our remake will seek to become the definitive SCP: Containment Breach experience in a modern engine.
2) Add modding support. The original game would not exist without a strong community of fans. I'd like to make it easy for people to add their own content, whether that be new levels, SCPs, or even gameplay elements! Eventually there could be a centralized repository of mods for users to download and add into their game. I'm building the engine for the game with modding in mind, and hope to add mod tools in the future.
3) Flesh out the story and gameplay. Experience the gripping story of the containment breach. No two playthroughs will be the same, thanks to our random generation and progression system - discover something new about the facility each time you play the game.
4) Upgrade the graphics and engine. Unity's lighting enhancements have already improved the game's graphics a lot. I plan on incorporating addons and improvements from Unity to continue improving the graphics with global illumination, vector based lighting, post-processing, and other cool effects! The game already uses Unity's post-processing stack to add ambient occlusion and anti-aliasing.
