Welcome

Hi, I'm Tyler and welcome to the Patreon page for Cooking Comically.

If you're here you might be thinking of helping to support Cooking Comically and I can't thank you enough for that.

First Off

You might be thinking "Wait, didn't this guy publish a book? Isn't he living it up in the Caribbean, swimming in money like Scrooge McDuck?" Not exactly. There isn't much money in traditional publishing (none for me yet, in fact) unless you sell lots of books. That just wasn't the case.

Back from the dead

I've recently relaunched Cooking Comically after a long hiatus which you can read about on the website. I've committed to releasing recipes every single Thursday. I'm dedicating all of my time to it, which is not something I've ever done. I've always had another job or school to keep up with as well but, not this time. Right now, I am all in.

What goes into it

It might not seem like it, but Cooking Comically takes a lot of time and effort to create. I have to research recipes, cook them, usually at least twice (either because it needs tweaking or because I screwed something up) I have photograph the process, process the photos, write the recipe and whatever jokes I can scrounge up, then I have to draw the cartoons and put it all together in a package that's easy to follow and understand and also, hopefully entertaining for you.

You and me

I need your help to keep Cooking Comically going strong and that's where you and Patreon come in. I should make it clear that the recipes themselves will always be free. But, if you choose to help me out and support me you do get certain rewards. For instance the lowest tier gets you access to the patron-only feed. There I'll be posting updates, in-progress doodles, little behind the scenes things, and generally interacting with patrons. The next tier gets you access to the weekly live stream I'll be doing where you can watch me draw the cartoons and assemble the upcoming recipes. And there's more for other tiers that you can read about just below on the page.

The Model

My funding works on a recipe-by-recipe basis. You can choose to give $1, $3, etc. You can contribute whatever you want per recipe. And you can place a cap on your funding. I'm currently doing 4 recipes a month and if you only want to support me for 1 or 2 of those recipes that's fine. You can do that. That way if I go crazy and drop 10 recipes in a month, you won't be contributing more than you expected.

With this model, if I don't create recipes, I don't get funded. And I think that's the way it should be. It makes me responsible to the only people I really care about when it comes to Cooking Comically: You guys.

In closing

So that's that. If you like what I do and want to be a part of it and help me make it all happen then this is the way. I will be eternally grateful for any support you can offer.

Thanks. And keep cooking.

  • A giant thank you. You're helping to support me and helping to make Cooking Comically possible. That's amazing. Honestly I can't thank you enough. You are the best.
  • Access to the patron only feed. Here I'll interact with patrons, post updates, in-progress sketches, doodles and content that might not have made it to the final recipes. All the fun things.
  • Access to the mostly weekly live stream where you can watch me draw cartoons and assemble the upcoming recipes. And probably chatting and doodling random stuff too, very informal.
  • The Vote. For the last recipe of every month I will present a small selection of recipes and patrons will choose which one I make.

  • This is clearly a mistake right? You missed the decimal behind the 1?
  • No?! Hmm, well ok. Once per month, pick out your favorite Cooking Comically recipe and I'll make a print specifically for you with a custom doodle and send it to you.

Goals
$233 of $600 per Comic Recipe
I will hire a web person to help revamp the website. The blog style was great for the beginning, but as more and more recipes are added the archive system and the site in general needs work. I'd love to get it overhauled and make it easier to search and make the whole site smoother to access and just an all around more future-proof delivery system for the recipes
