Boom baby!
Once we reach this amount, we'll have a special private livestream where patrons can come and hang out, and we'll take their doodle requests. It'll be great. :)
Rent, the musical!
If we get $200 a page, our monthly rent will be covered. This will of course make us extremely happy campers. We will make a special Cottonstar minicomic to celebrate.
About

HELLO! :D
We are two artists from Cape Town, South Africa, who run a webcomic called Cottonstar!
Adventures and silliness abound. Please enjoy reading our comic, and if you think it's worth flinging money at, enjoy doing that as well (we certainly will!).
Thanks!

Hello there! We are Danelle Malan and Ben Geldenhuys, two artists from Cape Town, South Africa.
We're very passionate about art and comics. Besides being huge amounts of fun to make, Cottonstar gives us a great platform to work from in terms of encouraging and expanding the ready-to-explode comics scene in South Africa.
We launched Cottonstar in August 2011, and have never looked back. It's been an amazing journey. There aren't a whole lot of other webcomics coming from SA at the moment, and we'd love to see that number grow. There's so much talent here - people just need to start telling their stories! Hopefully Cottonstar is only the first of many.
What is Cottonstar?
Cottonstar is a webcomic set in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian Southern Africa. The story follows the adventures of a moody lad named Renier, who accidentally got himself hired as a crew member aboard the pirate ship named Cottonstar. Things just kind of go downhill for him from there... or do they?
How often will you be updating (and what does that mean to my wallet)?
We aim to have a page up each Friday night/Saturday morning (GMT+2), so 4 per month. This means if you pledge $1 per comic, you'll be charged $4 at the end of the month. Sometimes, due to circumstances beyond our control, we might skip a page or update at odd times. You will only be charged for the content we actually put up, so if we miss a page and only upload three that month, you'll only be charged for three, and not the four we planned to upload.
Can I set a limit to how much I get charged per month?
Yes! You can do this by logging in, going to the creator’s Patreon page, and clicking the blue “Edit Patronage” button.
This way, you can put a cap on your pledge amount, and don't need to worry about overspending if we upload more content than you were anticipating.
Oops, I need my money for something else! Can I cancel my pledge?
Yes, as long as it hasn't been charged to your card yet (usually the end of each month). You can do this by logging in, going to the creator’s Patreon page, and clicking the blue “Edit Patronage” button.
If you must.

Can I do a once-off donation?
Patreon is looking into adding this feature, due to popular demand. However it is not possible at this point in time. To make a once-off donation directly to us, please do so via the "donate" button on our page!
What's in it for me?
We currently have a list of rewards which you can see below this post. We'll add more in time as new kiff ideas occur to us.
Do you have lions in your back yard?
Yes, we feed them the bodies of people who have cancelled their pledges.
(Spoiler: This is where we live, pretty much right in the middle of that photo. Actually, the mountain does have a bunch of wildlife, including zebras and antelope. Table Mountain is a nature reserve. They are fenced in for their own safety. That's about as exciting as it gets in our back yard in terms of big animals.)
We don't make comics full time, because we can't afford it. While the content of the Cottonstar site has been, is, and will always be free, we still incur running costs for the site, maintenance, advertising, art materials and such. We also spend a lot on printing each chapter and buying booth space at conventions and expos. Travel costs for two people also add up really fast if the event is far away!
Cottonstar is a love project and takes up most of our spare time, but we would love to be able to turn it into a full-time project. That would be pretty neat. With your help, we could see about putting the gears in motion to make that happen.
To those that have pledged, or are planning on pledging: THANK YOU, you are awesome. If you can't afford to pledge, please share this page with people who might be interested.
Thank you!
Ben & Danelle
