About

Welcome! My name is Connie and I am so happy to see you here!

Crocheting is my passion, but I am constantly drawn to explore my creativity in other ways, too, thus the Et Cetera!

My goal with this space is to create a community of creativity where I can share not only the crochet designs and skills you'll see on my website and social media, but also some of the less polished moments along this journey. Behind the scenes. Design process and inspiration. And, of course, all of the et cetera, too!

I don't remember a time when art wasn't a part of my life. My creativity has ebbed and flowed through the years, evolving through an endless variety of crafts, skills, and experiments with the inevitable highs and lows. The biggest fail to date? Sewing. I'm pretty sure it's my nemesis!

But every time I find myself in a creative drought, like college, an Army deployment, and having a newborn, I always suddenly realize that I NEED art in my life. It's essential to my well being. Crocheting, drawing, painting, designing, MAKING. These things breathe life into my soul. Art is healing. Art is freeing. Art is LIFE.

Being able to share that spark with others is ... indefinable.

I started teaching, officially, in 2013, when I became a Certified Crochet Instructor with the Craft Yarn Council. I have taught in Georgia, Texas, and Virginia, with a recent addition of event teaching that has already taken me to Tennessee and North Carolina. As a military family, we move every few years, which means I have to leave behind all of my amazing students and find a new fiber family every time we move. It makes me sad but it is also an opportunity for growth!

After being contacted by Skillshare in late 2015, I started filming a few tutorials and classes, but the learning curve (editing, gah!) was pretty fierce and I struggle to find the time and motivation for everything involved in filming new content. Moving into 2020, I plan to start offering some more informal tutorials that will still demonstrate techniques but without all the editing!

Some days I just want to sit and crochet all day, it's true. Some days I wake up at 3 am and scribble design ideas on scraps of paper in eye liner because it's the nearest thing that writes. Some nights I can't sleep at all until I get up and swatch for an idea while huddled in the half dark bathroom floor. Some days I don't crochet at all. Some days I paint. Or make stitch markers. Or hammer the you know what out of some wire to make shawl pins. Some days all I want to do is play video games or take a nap. But my very favorite days are when I hear stories of joy and success from my students.

I want to share valuable content for YOU, my students, my friends and family and fans! I want to spend less time worrying about marketing and money so that I can spend more time creating that content and sharing the stories behind my designs, my art, and my inspiration. I want to find out more about what you want to see and answer your questions so that I can create and design for you AND me! So please let me know what you like, what you want to see more of, and what you'd like to see from me in the future.

I am constantly amazed and inspired by my students. I don't want to lose that every time we move. I want to move you, my community, with me, wherever the Army may send us, so that we can take this creative journey together, alongside one another regardless of distance, learning and growing and living in making and doing and being the flame that materializes in the art we create.

Goals
$47.45 of $50 per month
Reaching a goal of $50 per month will not only help offset basic operating expenses such as Ravelry, Paypal, and website fees, but it will also allow me to hire a tech editor for each and every pattern and to start modestly paying for my pattern testers' valuable services, which is something that I've been wanting to do for a long time to help make sure my patterns are the best that they can be!
