Hi!

We're Sky and Ez and we run an online zine called Culture Eater. We cover music, gaming, film, tv, fashion, food, podcasts, events, personal stories....everything! We have a strict ethos of not publishing anything that could be perceived as click bait - no listicles, no news features with misleading titles, no hot take pieces that contain more gifs than actual words...none of it. Just genuine reviews, interviews, features and galleries put together by and for, consumers of culture!

Late last year we decided to place an ad in the hopes of offering one or two young writers some paid work writing for CE. We weren't expecting many people, if any, to respond to the ad but we were hopeful! So....when our emails blew up with over 100 replies from not just young, inexperienced writers, but also many experienced people with qualifications that put us to shame - we were more than a little shocked!

This put us in an interesting position; Part of our goal at CE is to offer a platform for (specifically) young and inexperienced writers to have their work published and grow their portfolios (and also suits our limited budgets), but the amount of qualified people applying for work at CE made it abundantly clear that amazing, experienced writers are also needing work! Knowing we didn't have the budget to pay these creatives what they're genuinely worth, but not wanting to go back to everyone with the old 'Dear John....' - we decided to reach out to everyone who applied, being upfront about our situation and budgets.

So we emailed every single person with the offer to join a CE contributors group where paid work would be made available whenever possible within our limited budget. As with the initial ad, I wasn't expecting much of a response. Wrong again. Almost every single person wanted in!

We got to work creating a contributors forum and have started posting opportunities! Always paid!

One of our goals is of course to increase our budget, not to pay more writers (not just yet anyway!), but to increase what we can pay our current contributors - naturally this is where Patreon comes in! In addition to on-site advertising - we've decided to set up a Patreon so anyone who is keen to support our contributors is able to do so!

100% of Patreon income will land directly in the pockets of our contributors and allow us to get closer to paying our amazing creatives what they're truly worth!
