About Rafeal

My journey toward Midwifery begins in Oakland, CA where I am today. In 2007 I became a full spectrum doula and have supported almost 100 families (and counting) in that capacity. As I continue to witness marginalized families not receive the care I know they deserve; I have decided to answer a long calling toward providing the midwifery model of care to growing communities.

Rightfully so, becoming a midwife is no easy task. However, certain barriers exist that make becoming a midwife tougher for some. As a BIPOC, Queer, Plus sized, femme I am finding those barriers to be overwhelming g. Along with long hours, missed family celebrations and time studying I will continue to need to provide for my basic needs.

I am excited to have the larger community supporting me in my training so that I may provide health services to marginalized families locally and globally. Thank you for supporting a marginalized birthworker toward my education and training as a health care provider.
