About Cypress Ulysses

Who is Cypress Ulysses?

I’m merely a writer, armed only with pen and paper, aspiring to make a living by honing my craft.

Traditional vs. Self Publishing

In a nutshell, if the author owns the rights and royalties to their work, then it is considered to be self-published, regardless of any amount of middle-managing. Conversely, if the publisher owns the rights and royalties, then it is considered to be traditionally published. Additionally, and expectedly, there are many caveats to consider, but that remains the main distinction.
Under these conditions, I opted for self-publishing. Why?
Well, because the world’s top publishing houses weren’t knocking down my front door in their haste to be the first to sign me up, nor were they offering me a grossly overpriced bonus in exchange for my relatively unknown services. Alas, but why would they?
Furthermore, traditional publishing comes with strings attached. It’s not an industry secret. They pay you lucratively for the rights to your work. In return, you agree to play by their rules. Their many, many rules. It’s a symbiotic relationship fostered by a mutually beneficial balance of supply and demand. However, if the publisher could succeed without the author, they would, and vise versa. Ergo, under comparative conditions, one would almost always, assuredly, opt to self-publish.
I’m fortunate enough to facilitate my own independence as an author, to play by my own rules, and not to settle or compromise under any conditions, and that is worth all the publishing house contracts in the world.

What is serialization?

In regard to literature, serialization is the process by which a written work, usually a piece of fiction, is published in smaller, sequential installments. To borrow a mainstream example, Barnes & Noble offers free serial reads to their audience, whereby an entire novel is released to the public in daily installments, chapter by chapter. Other examples of renown serialized works and their authors include The Martian by Andy Weir, and The Green Mile by Steven King. And with the rise of subscription marketing models, serialization has once again emerged as a champion into mainstream publication.

Is there an official release schedule?

There is an official release attempt. I will do my utter best to publish every Wednesday at or before noon PST (UTC -8). So far, I've been doing a pretty bang up job, if I do say so myself. Which I do. You can learn more about the consistency of my release schedule by reviewing the timestamps from my past releases.

What third-party websites does the author publish to?

In alphabetical order: MoonQuill, Patreon, Reddit, and RoyalRoad. If you would like to see my writing become available on your favorite website, you can suggest it using the Contact page of my website.

How can I contact the author?

You may contact the author using the contact form located on the Contact page of my website.

How can I support the author?

I appreciate your support! And am eternally grateful.
You don't have to spend any extra time or money in order to support me as an author. If you feel ingratiated to me in any way for whatever reason, then you can provide your support by any means you find preferable or acceptable. Simply telling your friends about the story you read and where they can find it is enough. Additional support may come in the form of critiques, feedback, and suggestions. These can all be provided directly to me, or via any of the websites I haunt.
Also, as a struggling artist, I rely on the goodwill of the community to foster my growth, this includes any narration or translation services which might be discounted or volunteered; inquiries can be made via the Contact page of my website.
As for monetization… well, while I don’t necessarily want your money, nor am I asking for any handouts or trying to sell you anything either, I certainly do still need money to survive in this imperfect world. Share what you can, but don't feel obligated. If you don’t want to spend a single cent or can't afford to, then don’t fret over it because you will eventually have access to all my published works. Fair enough?

How can I report plagiarism?

Plagiarism is bad. Alas, though I try to stay on top of the criminal element, people are constantly finding new ways to fuel their misdeeds.
Whether you want to ascertain if plagiarism has indeed been committed, or simply want to report your suspicions, all claims of plagiarism, in any country or language, can be reported on the Contact page of my website.
However—and this is important—please, do not try to file a claim of plagiarism on my behalf to a third-party, as it may be possible that the work is, in fact, my own submission.
