How did Daca Dauguao Digital Design, LLC come to be?
My goal, over the next few years, is to create a studio of animation, and a school that will teach all its individual components. I want to use our productions to entice audiences with what appears to be easy entertainment, only to thrust them into issues of unexpected gravity: the absurdities of “normal life,” the resulting necessity to ask “what if,” and the desire to better humanity within its limitations. What is it that we consider normal? Why do we subscribe to it without questions? What is reality? Is it a construct?

What can the arts do?
This is where my fine arts training comes in. I want to rattle cages. I want to upset the balance. I want to use that fine art mentality and make symbolic war against the profiteering of major studios. I want to organize artists to upset the industry and give the arts back to the artists.

I am working in what will be the first IP of the studio, a science fiction 3d animated short film. The studio will eventually use sci-fi and documentary-like points of view for projects to create a fusion of reality and fiction. I wrote and am producing the 3D animated short film. My focus is to use the digital art form to return science-fiction to its roots, presenting story lines that explore the experiences of human societies: the pressure of conformity, differences in social status, quality of life issues, and so forth.

What is driving this passion?
Over 20 years of visual arts employment in the USA has shown me how unforgiving the digital art world is to the aging artists. I have witnessed many great artists being let go from studios just because they are no longer single, young or movable (cannot chase studios around the world for work). And it applies to both men and women.

The fact that many artists want to set down roots and buy a house, raise a family, and actually have a life seems to go against all the intentions of major studios. It is not profitable for the studios. That tends to be a reason, usually hidden in obscure explanations of profit loss to the songs of Hollywood accounting.

What does Daca Daguao Mean?
The Taínos were the first Americans to meet Columbus, and Daguao the last chief (Cacique) to wage war against the invaders, sometime between 1500's and 1600's on the east of the island of Puerto Rico. He knew that the struggle was likely futile. But dying defending his people was better than to become a slave and watch them suffer. Legend says that none of his warriors, both men and women, survived. But that is legend. "Daca" is the Taino word for "I am."

How can you help me, and us, the future artists behind Daca Daguao Digital Design, LLC?
I am dedicating this patreon to helping with the production of the first IP (Intelectual Property) for the studio: the short film I wrote and am producing. Many of the 2D visuals: the concept art and illustrations, layout of scenes, character design, etc, are done, but there is much work to do. I want to eventually (hopefully soon) concentrate on this full time, and bring and hire more artists that have been displaced by the industry's practices.

What is in store for the future?
When the full 3D production is on the way, I will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the project, because 3D animation production is long and expensive, and I want to spend the cost on the artists, not the software/hardware. Artists are worth investment! And I have another 11 stories that we will tackle for the studio's IP. One idea for the future is to pick stories that my patrons have to share and work together to turn them into productions! Who knows where the next Toy Story lives.
