About Dacia Project

Hi!

I am Davin from the USA living in Romania where I am producing a photo book trilogy about the country's transition from the Ceausescu regime. In Part 1 I lived and farmed for a year with a peasant family in the Maramures region of northern Romania and in Part 2 I documented the regeneration of the beguiling capital city Bucharest.

In the final work, “The Dacia Project”, I am making a retrospective journey around Romania by car in a 2002 Dacia 1310 (a rebadged 1970s Renault 12 and a symbol of Ceausescu's Romania) as well as Dacia's new SUV, the Duster which I have heavily modified. I will be exploring a world missing autostradas and caught between the 19th and 21st centuries with legions of roaming black Mercedes driven by men in designer suits. Romania has become accustomed to the outside pressures of Europe before the Holy Roman Empire. Disaster after disaster followed as conquest and tyranny became the norm. Romania is the blade of grass between the ruined corpses on the battleground, and thus it is heroic, absurd, corrupt and innocent all at the same time.

With the support of Patrons I can document the entire journey in video and create travel Vlogs each week. I will take you behind the scenes of the trip in the European Union's most fascinating country. Bear, wolf, peasant and Roma encounters are all par for the course!

Being a Patreon

As a Patreon you will receive an email when a new video is released so you'll be the first to see them. Through your support I can stay truly independent. Your contribution not only pays for this independence in a very direct sense, but you get access to everything I do and create.

Please join me on this trip of a lifetime! I'd love to have you along!

Many thanks!

Davin
