Hello there!

My name is Dayle, but you may have heard of me as Dark Gaia. I'm the founder of Dark Gaia Studios (can you even be a founder of a one man band?), an indie developer of RPGs and adventure games and a published fiction author and journalist. For as long as I can remember, my two passions in life have been video games and storytelling. I'm driven by an insatiable need to tell the most epic stories - and sometimes I even add gameplay to them.

What's My Story?

When I was a little kid, I drew levels for Super Mario Bros on pieces of paper. Way back in 2006, I discovered RPG Maker 2000 and finally the ideas in my head could come to life. I spent the next four years developing games such as Legionwood and One Night and giving them away for free. When I finished university in 2014, I found myself stranded in the real world with no means of supporting myself, so I released my first commercial game to try and turn my passion into something that would sustain itself.

Now, with a few years of professional game development behind me, I want to return to my roots. I want to tell stories, not sell things - I want to give my games away again, but I need your help

Why Support Me?

So, we've already established that I want to turn a passion into something that can sustain itself. But why should you support me? It's simple: either I get paid to do what I do, or I can't do it. My games sell decently well on Steam, but selling a product means I have to treat what I do like a business. I'd like to focus on the things I enjoy the most - making great games and telling great stories - without having to think like a CEO. I just want to make things that I know my fans will love, and hopefully get something out of it to make my time worthwhile.

How It Works

Making games costs money. Writing costs money. I have to hire artists, musicians and programmers. I have to buy licenses for every asset I didn't make. That's in addition to every day expenses, such as caffeine (seriously, who can live without it?). The best thing about supporting me is that my work becomes yours - you get to be part of it, and you get to shape it, mold it, experience it in a way that nobody else can. By supporting me, you can:

  • Get your name in the credits for every game I make
  • Help me design characters, storylines or gameplay mechanics
  • Become part of my universe through unique NPCs or lore
  • Get early access to in-development and beta builds of my games
  • Get unlimited access to everything I make, for free, for ever
