"David, it's 2:00 o'clock in the morning! Six-year-old little boys should be fast asleep. Why aren't you sleeping?" "I can't sleep, mommy. The music won't stop playing in my head!"

That night in 1968 began my musical journey. It's been a ride! I've done some cool things like being a bandleader, produced an event at MSG, started a recording studio business and launch my record company, 41Records to name a few. It's been a wonderful ride. And it's about to get even better!

My career started back in the old music business days. The only thing I liked about the music industry back then was the originality, creativity, and quality of the artists and their music.

I did not like the business aspects of it, yet I love business. I hated the fact that I had to shop my demo to a record label. Then hoped the A&R guy liked it enough to give it to the president of the record company. If he liked it. I then had to create music according to what they thought was "good." If I did that, "they" then had to "pedal" it to the radio stations. Once at the radio station. We all had to pray the "DJ" liked it enough to play it! I hated the whole system! I always wished I could get my music right to the fans.

I love today's music business. It does just that! I can go right from my studio and into your playlist in a single day. It's beautiful. Many of today's artists complain about the new music business. They don't like having to deal with Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media to get there music and careers going. I get it. It's a ton of work, gaining knowledge and money. If they only knew what I had to go through "back in the day." They'd suck it up and get busy!

I wouldn't trade today's music business for the old model for all the money in the world. "Man! I wish" the internet and social media were around in the 70s and 80s. I would have given anything to be able to reach out to my idol, Lionel Richie and the Commodores!"

The new music business has provided me the opportunity to connect with you, one on one and in such an intimate way. That's priceless! It's connecting to the people. Their heart and soul. Listening to their story's and sharing mine, that inspires me to create.

So, why have I asked you here? And, what's Patreon? Is it one more social media website to drive us crazy? Yup! It sure is. LOL!

Remember the music mail-order clubs back in the day? Think of this as one of those types of clubs. Only it's direct, from artist to fan. There's no big corporate record company in the background. There's no music publishing company trying to get you to buy tons of music you're not interested in. It's just little ole me. And I'm glad you're here!

I have a really "BIG" dream I want to talk to you about. I cannot accomplish it alone. I hope you'll want to be part of it. In the end, it's going to be a win-win!

What's my dream? Returning to my music career, "full time." Starting over again in my 50's! That's pretty gigantic, right? Considering many new artists coming out are in their teens, twenties and thirties. I'd be one of the first, if not the first artist to be in his fifties.

Imagine. Jumping onto the world stage as a recording artist in my late 50's, after rebounding from decades of life trauma, divorce and raising a family. What a great story it would be! There were times when I actually thought I'd never do music full time again! But determination, grit, and the internet became the driving focus that has brought me to this point.

Finally, I've positioned myself were creating music full time once again is right around the corner. However, I'm at a very crucial point! If I don't get help in two areas. Achieving my goal will turn into a big struggle and lots of stress, and truthfully, I've had enough of both!

The two areas are:

1) Building a small team of professionals to help me
2) Financial help

Using the talented people in my circle along with websites like Fiverr. I can pull together a small dedicated team.

On the financial tip. I'm hoping that you and Patreon can help me pull together the financial help I can use.

So here's the deal...

Financially, I want to create a basic monthly budget to cover expenses like email marketing, online marketing, social media marketing, Fiverr, graphic design, video editing and more. These are just a few of the products and services I use every month to release my music and build an audience.

When you subscribe to my Patreon tier. I can begin to create a consistent monthly budget and move faster towards my goal of returning to music full-time. Ta-Da, it's that simple, LOL!

My goal is $500 per month. It seems like a lot because I set the price at only $3 a month. It will build. I believe in me. I have faith in you. In time. I'll add more tiers for those folks who feel to contribute more. I like taking baby steps when starting out.

Ok, so how this works is...

Patreon is a subscription-based, interactive, fun, and safe way for you and I to work together to help me accomplish my budget and big dream.

When you sign up for my $3 tier. Each month Patreon will charge you (based on however you told them to charge you) $3 every month until you tell them to stop. They will transfer the $3 to me each month. The more people that subscribe, the more it builds until I reach my monthly goal. A win for me!

Next, I put you on my Patreon VIP email list. Then all the music I release, you will receive first and for free. This will include free promotional music and retail music I place in my distribution channels like Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, etc... You will get it before anyone else! Further, I will include your name on my Patreon member list at my website (still under construction), letting people know that you are a big part of my career. Cool beans? A win for you!

But wait, there's more, LOL!

Building community...

What I like about Patreon is. It's interactive. It's us working together. We'll share back and forth. I'll post demos of new music ideas, video clips and more. I'll even create special projects specifically for my Patreon folks!

I'll check out your feedback and stories. The more you share your opinions and thoughts. The more opportunities I'll have to go into the studio and create! The new music will be a reflection of the communities DNA.

This is not just you throwing money at me. I think of it as an equal exchange. This is you helping me grow, it's you playing an active role in my music and career! Best of all. It's you being part of and helping me create my success story. And It's me giving back to you. My way of saying "thank you so much!"

So, for now. I want to keep this very simple, easy and fun. I don't want you to feel like I'm asking you to "break the bank" for "little ole me!"

As I grow. I will be able to do more.

If nothing else. I promise to deliver music that is original, creative, good quality and artistic. Because at the end of the day. It's really all about the music!

Ok, so are you in? Can you please help me reach my first goal of having a monthly budget of $500? It's the first step towards my dream of being a full-time recording artist once again starting over again in my 50's! Wow, just imagine!

Look out "younger" folks, I'm coming!

Biography

DAVID KNIGHT

Youth is a gift of nature, but age is a work of art. It's a classic saying that best describes David Knight's new music. The adult contemporary/R&B singer-songwriter from New York may be in his 50s, but it hasn't deterred him from pursuing a solo career. After decades of trials and tribulations, Knight is back as robust as ever. With vintage roots and a modern touch, his forthcoming material harks back to an era when The Commodores and The Brothers Johnson topped the charts. But for Knight, it's not about resuscitating antiquated sounds – it's about resurrecting a golden spirit: a time when music was felt, not heard.

From the beginning, Knight has had a spiritual connection with music. Raised in Queens, NY during the 60s and 70s, music was everywhere. “It was music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week” he explained. His mother was a renowned opera singer; his father a music aficionado. They introduced him to a world of R&B, soul, gospel, jazz and blues at a young age, where he became infatuated with artists such as Barry White, Marvin Gaye and The Jackson 5. They even exposed him to worldly genres – “When my dad was not playing OC Smith or some other R&B soul singer, he was playing salsa.”

But it wasn't until tragedy struck when Knight began to pursue music seriously. At 13, he witnessed his younger brother get killed in an accident. “I took stock of my life and I said, what am I gonna do? I said to myself, 'Marc died at the age of 12, I'm only 13. I guess I can die too. I need to do something with my life.'”
Over the years Knight honed his musical skills – piano, drums, bass and vocals. And while the decades were met with much adversity, music has been a tool for healing and self-improvement. His new material aims to transpose the message that music can be a catalyst for change and personal growth. Inspired by Lionel Richie and jazz players like Stanley Clarke, he's currently working on his upcoming solo album. An opus of dance songs and ballads, Knight is out to show that with age comes perspective. And with some perspective incredible things can happen.
"I want people to experience it the way I used to experience music as a child. Growing up back in those days, when the DJ was on the radio and said 'new music by X, Y, Z artist', you did not leave that radio. You would stay right there until they played that song. I want my music to touch people in the heart and soul – for it to be felt."
