To help you decide if I'm worth supporting, I'm distributing the following for free in their entirety.  (Note:  If you see files in these archives that start with an '_', like '_chapter_001.html', just delete them.  They are an artifact of the Mac compression program and I haven't figured out how to get rid of them.)

  • The Change Storms: Induction, my latest novel.  It's the story of a middle-aged therapist and rationalist struggling to come to grips with being a superhero who fights monsters and terrorists while trying not to be sent to an internment camp for having run away.
  • The Two Year Emperor, a 350,000 word D&D fanfic I wrote a couple years ago about a person from the real world who tumbles into one that runs on D&D rules...and very strict Rules As Written at that.  Note that this is an archive of all the original book 1 HTML files; I haven't found time to clean out author's notes and add nav links.

If you found yourself curious about The Change Storms world and what it is:

The Change Storms will give you superpowers, but they might kill you
or turn you into a horrific monster. The Changed--the people with
superpowers--are themselves miniature Change Storms; being around them
will eventually cause you to Change, with all that that implies. As a
result, the Changed are pariahs, kept in internment camps far from
everyone else, or drafted into the Special Response Division if
they're useful. Years ago, a group of Changed broke out of one camp
and formed the Army of Freedom, a violent separatist group. Elly
Larkin, a middle-aged therapist from Ohio who was trapped in a Storm
yesterday, needs to prove she's useful to the SRD. To do so, she'll
need to rescue kittens, kill separatists, and desperately hope for the
failure of the anti-Change movement in Washington that is advocating
for what is effectively the execution of all Changed, including the
members of the SRD.

As to me in general, I write science fiction, fantasy, and psychological horror.  My work is always rational; by this I mean that my characters are always smart, they don't carry the idiot ball, nothing happens because the plot demanded it, and conflict happens because characters have different motivations, not because anyone is EvilForTheLulz

As to why you might want to throw money in the kitty...I spent 20 years as a programmer; right now, I want to create because I think it puts more value into the world for me to release another book, or another chapter of a book, then it does for me to write yet another user profile system.  In addition to wanting to create, I'd also like to eat, and I'd rather ask people to throw a buck or ten at Patreon instead of asking you to go to Amazon and buy something every time I release.  Perhaps I'm being crass by talking about money so directly but...damnit Jim, I'm an engineer-turned-writer, not a diplomat!

Become a seer! See the future! ...or, at least, get all releases 24 hours before they go out to everyone else. (Also includes all the stuff from lower tiers.)

All the stuff from the lower tiers, plus get one piece of content per month that goes to no one except backers. Not to the list, not into the releases, nada nowhere not no how. Might be a short bit of what-if? flash fiction, a deleted scene, some character backstory, a writing technique, a link to a cool podcast or video, or anything else my fevered brain can spit out, but it will be something and it will be (in my opinion) cool.

All the stuff from the lower tiers, plus twice a year you can email me a request for something in the work -- a cameo, a particular plot twist, whatever you like.  I'll either do it, or (if I can't) then I'll work with you to find something that you want that I can do.

All the stuff from the lower tiers, plus a monthly 15-min Skype chat with me where you can ask questions, make requests, and get answers. I can't promise to meet all requests -- if you want a pony, or if you want flamethrower-toting mime paratroopers to drop into the middle of a fantasy battle...well, I'm afraid those probably aren't going to happen. In general though, if you want cameos, particular dialog, or simple plot twists, I can probably make it happen.
