About

Hello People of Patreon,

I am looking for a community to witness in my process of creating. I've found deep solace when I am able to turn inwards and reflect on my journey, and I believe in my abilities to confess my truths, dig deeper, remain fluid within nuance, and listen. I've always wanted to bring people deeper into my work since it is something I've found is such a catalyst for healing.

I deeply care about and nurture my resources from consent culture, gender and sexuality studies, black feminist theory, trauma theory, anti-racism, environmentalism, psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the queer canon, film theory, sex education, body positivity, reproductive justice, strength in vulnerability, reimagining representation, accessibility, autonomous archiving, ethics in technology, restorative justice, art as therapy, class solidarity, resource distribution, and above all, inclusive communities.

Before you read further please bring yourself to a grounded space or revisit when you feel called to.

***TW: Mention of sexual abuse/trauma*****
About me:
I'm a queer non-binary filmmaker and writer. My pronouns are they/them. I have lived a polyamorous lifestyle for 6 years now. I grew up in rural Florida where I spent most of my time outside, in the garden, and reading/writing/drawing/singing in the woods. I'm a childhood incest and sexual abuse survivor. It's important for me to note this as most of my work surrounds trauma -- its transference and its release. It's also important to me to be frank with you that I hope I cultivate patrons that feel as if they are consensually experiencing my work.

I'm the first person in my family to graduate high school. I went through foster care and knew that the only way out of my generational abusive cycles was to overachieve in my education. I moved to the city as most baby queers do, and I went to state college and got a B.F.A. in photography. I still hold a place for analog processes in my heart, and photography and the study of it taught me media literacy.

Since graduating, I've continued my art process and worked jobs that contributed to my process, but I have rarely been paid for my artwork since as an upcoming artist you either donate to auctions or work for free.

I worked as an art teacher in juvenile detention centers when I graduated college. I felt so much purpose at this job, but got fired because my boss found my artwork online and fired me (I live in a Right to Work state). I started a poetry collective where I hosted free workshops and readings, and curated zines of my community's poetry. I also worked as an art handler in the South East and handled the photography collection of Sir Elton John, Infinity Mirrors by Yayoi Kusama, and the archive of Tommie Smith. It was hard not to get jaded by the amount of resources it took to maintain physical archives, so that's when I decided to dedicate my work to moving image.

I make films because there is a dialog and communal aspect to the presentation. I write poetry, creative nonfiction, scripts, and essays because I believe that writing brings you closer to your truth, to your voice, and I believe my experience is useful to hear. I sing because it feels like raw emotion. I doodle to keep my mind calm. It is easy to store these things with resource and space disparity.

My work is vulnerable, sometimes raw, fluid, and genuine. I hope that here I can create a dialog around my thoughts, poetic ponderings, and be accountable to an audience. I believe in my abilities to heal and to teach as much as I believe in my abilities to grow and to listen.

Will you join me?
With Love,
Shane
