About Delmar Farm Equine Sanctuary & Animal Rescue

At Delmar Farm, we take in and we keep senior, rescued and special needs horses and an array of rescued farm animals. Many of them would be considered unadoptable, or undesirable. With the help of their gentle natures, we are providing beneficial experiences to children of all ages, children with special needs and children recovering from illness or tragedy. Our mission is to educate by instilling compassion, respect and responsibility for animals in a safe and loving environment. We want to be able to share these incredible animals with many more children who may benefit greatly from spending time here on the farm. While many would deem our horses past their prime or not useful, they have so much to offer that can change a young persons world. When children visit the farm, we want them to feel as though they've entered into a beautiful story that they will create in their memories with our very special animals. We believe that children will lead the way to help animals in their future and also how vital animals are to helping and healing us too. It's a win win for both the animals and so many children. Can you help us please? We desperately need it.

How I started: My name is Claudia and I have dedicated so much of my life to caring for animals. When I refer to "we", I speak on behalf of myself, the animals and just a few amazing people who help me care for the animals out of pure love. My dream as a child was to one day own a sanctuary as I always had a bleeding heart for animals especially those in need of help. My very first horse when I was 13 years old was a rescue. I begged my parents to save her since the farm where she was from was going to "send her away". I kept her for 16 years until the day she died. I never let her down despite going through a lot of life changes at the time. Her name was Shalimar. A few years later, I acquired a young unruly thoroughbred named Delgamo and I kept him for 20 years also until the day he passed. Back in 1998 when I first acquired my farm, I named it Delmar Farm using the "mar" from Shalimar and the "Del" from Delgamo. And so the journey began. I was a trainer for years at a fancy show barn and taught hundreds of children how to ride but though the years, I started programs here at my own farm that enabled children to spend quality time with the horses rather than just learning to ride. My programs and ideas evolved (and still are evolving!) as I started taking in more rescued and special needs horses and animals. I received my 501C3 status last year and I have such high hopes of being able to do more on my happy little farm to help children through the love of my animals. It hasn't been easy though by any means. I am a single mother raising two wonderful teenage daughters with no help from their father as he is now in hospice care battling cancer. With no family near either, it's a struggle to keep it all together but when I see the children who come to the farm light up when interacting with my horses and animals, it gives me hope. I can't let them down. Please consider being a part of our journey! All monthly donations, no matter how big or small, help us to continue making a difference for so many. The costs in South Florida to feed just one horse exceeds $250 a month and we have 15 horses, 5 donkeys, 5 goats, 1 sheep, 2 pigs, 1 cow, 1 cat, 2 bunnies and 10 dogs. There are also all the other costs in care and farm upkeep. Because the farm does not bring in nearly what it costs to maintain it and keep all the animals fed and healthy, I am constantly trying to support the animals on my own but on borrowed time. Also, the amount of work required to take care of the animals is more than a one person job but the lack of extra volunteers makes it so time consuming. I am asking for your help that these animals so deserve. They have more than earned it because of all they have done to serve and teach us and will continue to give amazing experiences to so many. Unfortunately, very few people want old horses or horses and animals that aren't entirely useful but I have promised them a home for life. We are a 501C3 nonprofit organization so your donations are tax deductible :)
Thank you so much!!
Claudia xoxo
