About Demi Anter

Welcome to the club!

I’m Demi Anter, a poet, performer and teacher originally from Indio, California, now living in Berlin, Germany.

You might know me from my poems and essays, my spoken word performances, or even my life-size David Bowie pillows.

Some of my most treasured experiences so far have been:

  • Performing at Glastonbury, Poetry Ireland (Dublin), Loud Poet’s “Best of Fringe” (Edinburgh), and SAND Open-Air (Berlin)
  • Being published by journals such as Ninth Letter, Porter House Review, The Selkie, mojo, and ROPES
  • Teaching creative writing in workshops and lectures like “Storytelling for Scientists”

Right now, people are retreating into books, films, poems, music, and podcasts for comfort and distraction. We need artists more than ever. But we live in a system where artists usually can’t survive just by making art. It’s the system that is broken.

That’s why some governments give substantial grants to help even the playing field. Most artists rely on subsidization. Even James Joyce needed the help of notable patrons like Harriet Shaw Weaver and Sylvia Beach to publish Ulysses! And he's hella famous now!
Where does Patreon come in? Think of it as a subscription to an artist you love. If everyone only flipped through the pages without buying a copy, magazines could not survive. They rely on subscribers to keep delivering great work to everyone.

Join my Patreon community so we can build something together — here, and out in the real world. As this community grows, I aim to start a regular writing feedback group, create online writing courses, stage monthly live events in Berlin, and tour the world with my poetry.

I am so pleased to take this journey together.
xo, Demi

DISCORD CHANNEL: When I reach €150 per month, I will launch a Discord server with special channels just for Patrons, where we can discuss writing, cats, our favorite Roxy Music albums, and anything else we like! What is Discord? Discord is basically a super customizable chatting app. It allows for more community interaction than the normal Patreon posts do.
