Denijal

is creating critical commentary, conversations, and essays
I am a writer, analyst, commentator, and occasional poet, trying to provide original insight into questions pertaining to (post-)colonialism, human rights, and resistance, focusing primarily on Palestine, the Levant, and the Balkans.

Throughout the years, I have independently created distinctive content on, among other topics, Black-Palestinian histories of solidarity, resistance efforts in Palestine and Lebanon, the history of Zionism, apartheid, settler-colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. In combining academic scholarship with socio-political analysis, my writings have challenged Israeli apartheid, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, Afrophobia, white supremacy, extreme-right movements, oppression of free speech, genocide denial, and other racist and otherwise discriminatory phenomena. You can read more about my work and research interests and access my bibliography at DenijalJegic.com.

My previous writings have been featured in Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera Balkans, Muftah, Mondoweiss, The New Arab, The Palestine Chronicle, The Grayzone, and TeleSur, among other media outlets.

My aim is to highlight marginalized voices. As a war refugee and genocide victim/survivor, I have lived in multiple situations of diaspora and have never internalized the concepts of ‘home’ or ‘nation.’ Coming from a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and multi-lingual background, and having lived in different geographies in the Balkans, Western Europe, North America, and the Middle East, I have always been eager to make visible in my analysis of marginalization and oppression the underlying structures of violence that connect political hegemonies transnationally as well as to highlight the intersections of transnational articulations of resistance. For me, writing is not a hobby or profession. It is a necessity, a weapon, a means of survival. It is a tool to highlight injustices and the first step to change something.

I am dedicated to continuing to invest as much time as possible into researching and writing. In having conversations with you, I look forward to sharing and expanding my knowledge. Your contribution will help me speak truth to power and highlight underrepresented narratives.

What I would like to do:
While I am dedicating every free minute to my writings, there are still plenty of topics I would like to explore and convert my ideas into texts. I would like to write more about the Palestinian struggle, Israeli policies, current developments in the Middle East, U.S. imperialism, as well as resistance efforts which are oftentimes ignored or vilified in Western representations. Beyond that, I would like to research further the connections between the different spots on the Mediterranean that I call home and explore intersections between socio-political issues in the Levant and in the Balkans. I would like to extend my work on genocide and ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavia and the ongoing genocide denial. I would also love to continue working on my second book, in which I intend to analyze how Palestine and Palestinians are fantasized about in the Euro-American political extreme right.

If you think that my particular perspectives can provide important insights and if you encourage my work, I would be grateful for your support. Every donation would be appreciated as a great help.

The content I look forward to producing includes, but is not restricted to:

Commentaries, Analyses and Essays:
Like in my previously published articles and my twitter threads, I will continue to write analyses of political events as they happen, trying to highlight narratives that are underrepresented in dominant English-language media and asking crucial questions that might expand our discussions. I will also write longer in-depth analyses based on academic research and I would be happy to share early drafts of lectures, presentations, and conference papers.

Book Reviews and Recommendations:
I read a lot and I always enjoy discussing books. I will share book recommendations, write reviews of books, and make accessible reading lists and bibliographies for specific topics.

Audio-Visual Material:
I am very eager to initiate some form of audio(-visual) commentary in the future, such as a podcast or a vlog.
