I'm Denise Shanté Brown, the creator + cultivator of Design for the Wellbeing of Black Women. I'm also a holistic design strategist, mental health advocate, facilitator and thought leader whose work focuses on centering the health concerns, creativity, and imagination of Black women.

My practice creates space to develop liberating tools and strategies with Black women needing a compassionate support system that awakens their creative capacity to be well. Through the intersection of design justice and health equity, I've been collaborating with designers and healers to disrupt oppressive models of healthcare while offering research, holistic health practices, and design strategies that are culturally relevant. This work has made both design and health knowledge accessible to Black women navigating unique health challenges to create their own self-care tools and continues to respond to the question:

How might we position Black women as leaders in the design process to reimagine collective wellbeing, creatively and holistically?

Goals
28% complete
This first goal is to earn income for my writing, research and education work. I want to be able to share information about design’s role as a tool for healing and its relationship to Black women’s health in ways that are accessible and culturally relevant. I will create this through blogging, participating in panels, and hosting conversations.
