Hi there! My name is Dennis Schubert. I am a software engineer based in Germany, and I work mainly on open-source software that aims to keep the internet free, open, and accessible to all. This is true for my full-time job, but also for the projects I do on the side.

One of those projects is diaspora*, a free and open source, federated social network. As part of the project’s core team, I am one of the people responsible for reviewing and merging contributed code, leading discussions within the project, and other project management tasks. I also maintain diaspora*'s project website and Discourse forum.

diaspora*'s core team are volunteers, just like all contributors to the project. This is great because it allows everyone to work on what they genuinely want to work on; but it also creates challenges, as volunteers cannot always guarantee the amount of work they will be able to do.

Recently, a lack of resources for code reviews and other essential project management has created a bottleneck. New features from our contributors can’t be released if there is no one available to review them. This is not good for diaspora*.

The few people who can review code and manage the project are already spending all the time working on diaspora* that they can spare. To be able to do more, they would need to take time out from their paid roles, so would need funding to compensate for extra time spent working on maintaining and improving diaspora*.

As one of these people, I want to explore how I could spend more time helping diaspora* to improve and progress. This Patreon is an experiment to see if diaspora*'s community would like me to be able to increase the amount of time I spend working on diaspora* each month.

So, wanna join?
Tiers
Seed
$3 or more per month

You will get an incredibly good feeling for supporting the process of building and maintaining a federated social network and related projects!

Flower
$10 or more per month

Just like in the previous tier, you will get a good feeling. At this tier, however, you will get an even better feeling!

Field
$25 or more per month

What do you get if you add a good feeling to an even better feeling? I do not know either, but that is what you will get! Your support helps to buy more coffee to keep me even more productive. ;)

Forty-Two
$42 or more per month

If you have lots of money and you are unsure about the ideal amount to contribute to a campaign like this, this might be… the answer. It is, for sure, a truly gorgeous number.

In addition to your good feeling, you will qualify to receive four diaspora* stickers. I will get in touch with you.
