Welcome to Despatches from the Matriarchy, an interactive subscription series for you, your friends, your sisters and your community.

This is your space to learn about the women’s movement, feminist theory, women’s history and a little about yourself too. These are dark times for women and one way to counter that, is for us to remember our foremothers and the lessons they left us.

Patriarchy disappears women's lives and with them, the campaigns we undertook and the oppression we experienced. Each generation is forced to reinvent the wheel as we fight the new face of misogyny. But what if we could link our work to that of our sisters throughout time? What if Ancient Greek women took bold steps to criticise men’s power? What could they teach us? What if Aboriginal women’s powerful nineteenth century activism could be remembered and drawn upon for tactics and inspiration? Does eco-feminism have a new place of importance in climate change?

Germaine Greer - Australian feminist, academic, author
I’ve studied these for decades. I’ve worked as a women’s liberationist for decades. I work every day bringing women together and helping us create continuity between the generations. I’ll work with you on these too. I want to share my thoughts and those of my role models and I want to hear your thoughts too. I want to bring you the chance to delve into the power of sisterhood and women’s work. I want to help you heal the wounds of patriarchy and find your way forward as you too work for women.

Painting class taught by American artist Adelia Armstrong Lutz (not pictured) in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the late 1880s.

Despatches will bring together some of my passions and meet up with yours. I want to introduce you to some amazing women I know, and some I’ve met over the last few decades from throughout history. Let’s bring our power to bear again as we face some of the most powerful challenges to women’s rights we’ve ever faced.

If you want to contribute to the hundreds of hours of work I do on feminism and supporting women across the country, I'd love it if you'd fling me a quick monthly coffee. Caffeine fuels revolution!

You know that sense of OMG it's all insurmountable, what the hell can I do?! This is a thing you can do. Feminism isn't paid, it's barely respected because women aren't respected but here's your chance to give a little and help a lot.

Thank you! And thank you from your sisters!
